So I have a 6.9 idi with an ATS 085 turbo on it. The turbo and everything is fine but the up-piping is a nightmare. The previous owner had replaced a section of it and I just want to get one solid section of pipe in, it doesn't seem to build pressure right like its leaking and the underside of the firewall is black with smoke. The problem here being that ATS no longer makes parts for these turbos. I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to use a hypermax pedestal and up-pipes with the ATS turbo. My main question being, does the ATS turbo bolt to the Hypermax pedestal and then would the up pipes interfier with the ATS down pipes. Also how easy would it be to get parts from Hypermax? Any advice wouild be great.
Thanks
welcome to FTE.
do you have a local exhaust shop around you that has a good reputation? is so, go to them and see if they will fabricate you a complete new manifold to turbo pipe setup?
that is what i did with my banks setup on my 88 and was very happy with the results. price was the same as buying from banks, and i got stainless pipes instead of regular steel pipes.
Thanks tjc tracsport, Ill have to look into finding an exhaust shop. Isnt it funny how the simple solutions never cross my mind. As for when you had it done, roughly what did it cost? And how long do you think that would take, I use the truck as my daily driver and I cant have it out for too long.
it cost me $210 for the stainless pipes 11 years ago.
my banks unit uses two pipes, a single one from passenger side to under the bellhousing, and then one from driver side manifold to a "Y", with one leg going up to the turbo pedestal, and the other going to under the bell to pickup the passenger side pipe.
Another option is to talk to Justin @ idiperformance.com
I know he's done a lot with various kit parts; he made me a crossover for my Banks on the spot, and I'm pretty sure he can get any old ATS kit parts that might be floating around.
