What causes high EGT's?

So you fixed it? A loosy-goosy wastegate is ALSO an exhaust leak. So when you have low boost/high EGTs, that's the first place to look, given you nave *known good tuning*.

Black smoking can happen, but the worse the leak, the more the smoke.

I will be working at home this weekend Casper.If you want to make a road trip we could get her in the shop for a look over.

Like these guys said,start with looking for leaks.

I wish man, that was how bad the turbo was when I installed it last summer.

So is it time to give Gale a call.

RE-EDIT: Not quite.

Heck, I might be up for a little road trip anyway. I need another 1/8" on the pinion (Andrew's adjustment made a pretty big difference) and even though he may not be there... between the two of us I'm sure we could turn it that much.

Well looks like I might be making a trip to my new found MO friend, Brad (who happens to be an up-pipe expert according to Andrew

) and install some new dough nut gaskets and check the rest of the intake for leaks. Weather is kinda nasty today, but if I get out of class in time, I'm going to get my inspection mirror and give the ol' babies but a going over.

As long as there not like Andrew's.

Also check were the turbo and the spider go togeather.I didn't have mine line up right and had a boost leak there.

Yeah, I had the same problem, Brad. When I swapped compressor housings, it LOOKED like the spider & turbo were aligned, but I was only getting about 22psi. Built myself a leak tester and found it right away...

EDIT: And the 38r housing can be indexed, so make sure it's lined up correctly.
