Lowering EGT

What besides a 4" exhaust can I do to lower EGT? When I tow with my tow tune the EGT gets high on long steep pulls. Would like to be able to use it with the tune because there is more power and it pulls nicer, but I want to lower my EGT. I have a 4" flo pro system coming. What else can I do? Would a new intercooler make much of a difference? Already have an S&B cold intake and Banks Hi Ram.

I don't have experience with it personally, but several have reported EGT drop of over 100* with an improved intercooler

What are your EGT's getting up to?

Went up to 1450 momentarily before defueling. I'm hoping just he exhaust will help enough but just curious what else I could do.

Is that cold air pulling air from under the hood or you have it pulling fresh air in somehow?

When towing up a steep grade it is usually better on these trucks to keep the rpms pretty high 2500-3000. Much below that and is going to start lugging and your EGT will climb. At that point you need to make it downshift. You can get it to downshift if you let of the pedal for a second and then press it back down. Rpms will go back up and you're good.

Good advice right there.

From the front by the grill. It's an S&B cold air intake.

The Ford stock is also a cold air intake. But that is not her or there.
Have not done it yet but water/methanol injection. The control system
even has it's own little brain.

Also you should be watching more than just EGTs. To get the PCM to
defuel then you have more than just the EGTs getting up in numbers.

Have you also tried the T/H to help keep the RPMs up?

It's in t/h. The tuner defueled per the 1450 setting.

I agree My egts are higher than most also ,800 unloaded and towing 900-1200 and this is correct letting the motor lug shot my egts into danger territory, when I would see this I would force it into a lower gear just as described and you could watch the egts drop quick

I had the same problem and went with the snow water methanol Stage 1 system. I just had to slowly turn the water up to get it where the IAT2 temps are around 100 degrees. That keeps the EGT's at about 1200 pulling a steep long grade. Those small tanks didn't last for nothing. I had to end up putting a 50 gallon water tank in the bed. I just run straight water because the methanol stuff gets pricey. It's supposed to give you an extra 40 horsepower on water alone and I do feel a slight power increase but of coarse when the fan is at 100 percent you lose all that. I tow heavy, so I decided to put it in.

You know that you can use the blue window cleaner that is only water and methanol?

Winter formula is what you want if you can get it. It has a higher methanol ratio because it's the anti-freezing agent.

If he were up north then is would be more likely to find it in a store.
That or a drive up to Big Bear if he is down that direction.
