You have a 38R, how old are your tunes, there's been big inprovements over the years for EGT's . And uppipes for sure if you haven't done them.

Uppipes will be the best bet. Water injection is nice.. but unless you are towing very heavy you shouldn't be getting hot

Then uppipes should be first. I don't know who wrote the tunes, but there's alot of tunes out there for the TS chip that keep EGT's under controll. Check it after uppipes if all well good, if not go for the update or switch tuners.

Fix what's broken first before looking to mods to cool things down. An exhaust leak at the up pipes will make EGT's skyrocket in a hurry.

Another item to add - 6.0 intercooler swap (or other aftermarket upgrade.)
Since the 6.0's IC is much larger than the original 7.3's IC, you're getting more surface area to cool down the incoming air-charge. I've read a few posts that people have seen a significant drop after doing that.

You figure $100 for a good/used 6.0IC plus maybe another $100 for new boots/clamps to mount it?
Even if you took the average medium of 150*'s I'll take that as a good starting point instead of $400 for new Bellowed up-pipes, and/or $500+ for a SnowPerformance Water/Methanol kit.
It's still a worthwhile/upgrade item for the cost. Every little bit helps

Just a heads up, no intercooler will compensate for leaking up pipes, which is what the OP stated he has as an existing problem.

Don't get me wrong, intercoolers are a good upgrade. I have a 6.0L intercooler in my truck currently. The main issue is to fix what is broken first before trying to add mods to cure the same problem that can be solved by replacing what isn't working properly in the first place. I've had a 6.0L intercooler for years, and had the stock up pipes spring a leak. Even with a larger intercooler, I was seeing EGT's topping 1400+ degrees. Replacing the up pipes brought them back down to normal. The bellowed up pipes are a good permanent fix.

If he replaces the up pipes to fix the exhaust leak and still has high EGT's, then it's time to check everything else to see if there is another problem. If the engine components are all sound and working normally, then it's an issue of either 1) tuning, or 2) adding mods to help keep temps cool.

Absolutely - I was pointing out that there are other items that could be done along with fixing the up pipes.

Boost and exhaust leaks will wreck havok on EGT's, depending on how bad the leak is.

What is considered "normal" EGT's can vary based on your current mods, altitude and other outside factors, and tuning. Rule of thumb is that you would want to keep EGT's under 1250 degrees for long periods of time, and limit those temps over 1250 to only short bursts.

When you replace your up pipes and get everything buttoned down, you should see a difference.

What temps are you seeing now?
