What causes high EGT's?

Simply put, what factors affect the EGT? I've finally got my truck back to a stable condition, and my EGT's are higher than they use to be.

So... I know
Air restriction
Too much fuel
???

Basically, that's it. Too much fuel, not enough air. Or exhaust restriction.

Well fudge, I was hoping for more.

I upgraded:
OE 99' turbo to GTP38R
OE boots on intake plenums to Dieselsite (all 4)
OE AB sticks to AD refurb'd sticks from swamps
OE HPOP to Adrenalin pump

Same:
AIS
4" MBRP exhaust
Chip (Cale; BTS)
Boots on intercooler, OE (2 of them)

Observations, turbo spools slower than the OE unit. I have no smoke under normal driving, very little smoke getting on it unless I switch to the 140 tune. Does that help maybe? I was getting on the highway under moderate acceleration, was approaching 80mph, and my EGT's were at 1200 empty. It was down a grade ~ 5%.

Joe, in another thread you mentioned that the EGBP sensor was for more than just the valve... Well as you know, mine is capped off. It wasn't back in the day. Think that in some way could be affecting the EGT's? If I knew what else this thing influences I'd know if I need to repair it; The valve has long been gone.

that 38R should spool faster...start the truck and feel for exhaust leeks around the up pipes..my EGT's wont hit 1200 till the speedo hits D for drive....

Really? Too much fuel and not enough air is all that effects EGTs? I thought things like SOI, atomization, compression all effect that too.

So did you change injectors but not get different tuning from BTS? I'd think you'd have to reburn for different sticks, or am I not reading it right.

Well I was pretty confident that they weren't leaking, BUT can't say I've inspected them. I caulked it up to a different exhaust housing (if there was?) Would there be a difference between a leak there and a leak in the old OE boots at the intercooler? How would the up pipes effect smoke?

Well I hope my ASSumption don't bite me in the rear, but I figured they both were split-shot's and not much difference in capacity, so... it should ride Went from OE AB's, to OE AD's. (just from Swamps)

If you want to get into the nitty-gritty, yes. I'm talking basics.

And a boost leak = not enough air whether it's in the exhaust side *or* intake side, just to be clear.

There are a ton of things that effect EGT's... but I cant talk about them...

Check for boost leaks, check for drive pressure leaks... Thats your issue right there is lack of air flow.

Did you mess with the wastegate on the 38r when you installed? I have seen some come out so loose they were opening at 8psi...

Not really, no sudden onset, just remember when I first got my BTS tranny I could spin both tires from dead stop and no brake. That was with an XLE4 pcm, TS 6-pos chip, E99 turbo and AB injectors.

Yes, E99 IDM, modded to 140 and the Adrenalin HPOP.

So should I be seeing smoke, or just elevated EGT's

Lookin more and more that way. I just thought it would roll smoke if there wasn't enough air. The WG was exactly that loose, when I first installed the turbo. It is not connected (capped off) and once I get the coals moving, I'll see ~33-36psi now that I've adjusted it.
