If you are going to carry concealed..............CARRY CONCEALED!......Get used to carrying, don't immediately take it out upon getting in vehicle or home. Practice and familiarize yourself with carrying until it is second nature.............The pistol stashed in the truck does NO good when you are 50yds from it, and that once in a lifetime threat emerges!
I prefer to keep my pistol on me but the seats in my 2010 FX4 are just not comfortable with my paddle holster... I am looking for a secure way to carry it where it is still out of sight yet easily accessible while I am in the truck. I have had to resort to stashing it in either the console or door cubby for the time being (while I'm actually in the states that is). This is one of the reasons I am considering a shoulder rig. I would prefer to keep the paddle holster on my belt (because the holster is not uncomfortable empty in the truck) and just transfer my pistol from the prospective "truck holster" back to the paddle when I get out. I don't like the idea of having to wear a button up or zip up over shirt/jacket with the shoulder holster (to keep it conceaed yet accessible. I like the ability to wear a sweater or pullover that conceals the whole rig.
Below is a link to Mitch Rosen holsters. I am waiting for the first on the page UPL, super high ride straight drop that should be fine for truck carry as the butt of the firearm would be above the seat belts. Chris
I built a custom console with a built in holster in it made of wood and lined with felt that conseals it in the console till I need it quick opening that raises the gun in to hand as you grab it works well for me and the kids can't see it .
this is the USA we have rights one is to have guns and use them. some of us carry all the time and you will be thankful when we save your life when you left yours at home. the cops are just in ime to write the report.
I got one of those lockboxes and installed it today-check new thread started as there may be those who want a locked unit for other things then guns. Chris
I used to carry in the waist band (IWB) over the rear pocket of a pair of jeans but found that it dug into my side with the 2009 seats. I changed to a IWB that was made to carry on hip, felt better but the seat belt made very hard get out. Then I bought a Rosen UPL, it's a belt holster a that is a straight drop worn more forward than most. With the shorter Sig, it is very easy to seat and pull out if needed. The seat belt becomes a non-issue with this holster. Now my lockbox is for those places I am not allowed (Post Office, courts and government buildings). I now know my firearm is safe.
I have a paddle holster made by Little Bear. I'm very happy with where it sits as it allows easy presentation. I just don't like sitting in the truck with it... The holster empty is not an issue. When my pistol is in it, the mag well is pushing into the seat, creating discomfort.
I like that lockbox for the truck. Right now I have a box that gets cabled to the seat from in the Ram for when I do not have the pistol on me. It works but leaves a lot of be desired.
Have you guys tried messing with the cant on the holster? I have an XD40SC that is my primary carry weapon and I use a SuperTruck IWB holster. with it all the way forward for cant and about 3:15 or 3:30 on me I haven't found a seat that is uncomfortable. I also have a Galco Silhouette and a SnapSlide for OWB carry and with the SC I have no issues. The XDm with the full size grip can push a little depending on the chair though.
I would try using the Crossbreed Supertuck. It's a IWB that works great. I carry an XDm9 and even when driving my sons Focus it's comfortable.Other than the weight it never poses a problem. I would also recommend adjusting the cant as others have mentioned until you find something that works.
I guess I'll have to look at some different holsters... I can't adjust the cant on my current paddle holster, but I realy would prefer not to. I have practiced for years with my current setup, and am comfortable presenting with it.
