Actually - by VOTING FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE we hold the National Debt down, but that is definately a topic for the members only forum.

I'd rather see the people who have to go out and check people who held back NOT BE NEEDED than have to see our tax money go to pay their salaries - YES!

Doggone right I would. Tax money also has to pay for their fuel and accomodations as well. Do you see it otherwise? It seems clear to me.
And they are NOT going to stay at a "MOTEL 5 and a HALF". Add to it the "EXPENSE ACCOUNT". I learned quickly while I was "TRAVELLING ON ORDERS" that "PER DIEM" is a wonderful thing indeed...

Keep all of your reciepts, and it is all "SOMEONE ELSES PROBLEM" - It's a good way to live high on the hog!

I KNOW

The bars in the better hotels even still serve drinks with those useless little bamboo umbrellas stuck in the fruit...

Travelling at Government Expense is GREAT! I quite enjoyed the poop out of it

Did you know that a personal vehicle enjoys a "Depreciation" stipend?

Mine was in the mailbox yesterday. Turns out the letter I got over the weekend was just a "be on the lookout for your packet" notice. Kinda unnecessary, but...

Opened it, spent 5 whole minutes reading the instructions and filling it out (name, race, own/rent) and put it back in the mailbox this morning.

Yawn. Easy peasy.

There is no CENSUS!

Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution: "...
The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

Note the word, enumeration, which, by definition, is a "count", not a demographical survey.

I just put down the number of persons in the household, that we are of "Other" Race (which I then clarified as "Human"), and marked the correct number of males and females. Then I made a note that they should read Art. I, Sec 2 of the U.S. Constitution, and that they should not contact me further. It's sealed and in the mailbox.

Ours was brought to our door, We live in an RV. It isn't any real big deal. I did not give my name or phone number. Other than that it was 2 people, 1 male, 1 female, our ages, race. we don't have children so that didn't apply. they ask if you live in any other place then give options I wanted to check PRISON & JAIL, under race other, MONKEY. But the wife didn't think I should. We only filled it out because we live in a small town that can use any Federal money they want to hand out. Since they are going to give away money until they completely bankrupt this Country anyway our small town might as well get it share. We need a new school roof, the roof is collapsing in our Middle School. It too bad the roof isn't falling on Wall St & Washington DC.
I'm afraid that the elections this year will be TOO LATE to change the downward spiral we are on.
Jason, we did about the same thing as you except for the note. Good for you I wish I would of thought of adding a note.

Got it, filled it out, and returned it today. I got the short form, and I'd rather fill that out than deal with the possibility of someone bringing by a long form, because I will not fill that one out. Legally they cannot do anything about it, but this government does not have a good track record when it comes to imprisoning dissidents. If I were to be arrested, or hit with a major fine, legal or not, I would probably lose everything.

A man in a Ford Ranger delivered my census form the other day.

Took all of 5 minutes to fill out and there was nothing in it that would be an invasion of privacy.

It got mailed off yesterday. Don't know why there is such an uproar over it.

Seems to me having someone come to your home to gather information is more of an invasion of privacy than these short forms are...

Mine got mailed off today...

Also, for those who haven't read it yet, there is a form included with the D1 form that says the following:

***************
Federal law protects your privacy and keeps your answers confidential (Title 13, United States Code, Sections 9 and 214). The answers you give on the census form cannot be obtained by law enforcement or tax collection agencies. Your answers cannot be used in court. They cannot be obtained with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

As allowed by law, census data becomes public after 72 years (Title 44, United States Code, Section 2108). This information can be used for family history and other types of historical research.
***************

I can't speak for others, but I feel more comfortable supplying the information, sealing it in an envelope, and mailing it off myself than I would giving that information to someone at the door whom you don't know from Adam and whom I can't guarantee will keep that information private...

I posted this in the club ,but I'll add it here ...A friend of mine actually sent this to the census bureau ...:
To U.S. Census Bureau:

I just received my U.S. Census form in the mail on the 16th of March and I just wanted to let you know that I’m going to fill it out and send it back to you so be sure that you’re ready to receive it. I didn’t want to surprise you with the filled out form so I’m just giving you a heads up to let you know that it’s going to be arriving shortly. I wasn’t sure that you would know what to do with it if I didn’t warn you that it was coming so I’m just making sure that you’re aware of the situation. So just that we’re clear on this, I’m going to fill the form out and send it to you and then you’re going to record my information and put it in a database, right? Ok, just making sure that you know what you’re supposed to do when the form arrives at your facility.
Sincerely

Department of Home Land Security lost 1,000 laptops last year and the year before that the VA lost a laptop with over 10 million names and social security numbers. I am sure all that information stayed confidential even if it managed to find it's way to China and Mexico.

Rick, I wouldn't want to join a club that has such immature people in it that would write such an idiotic letter. OK, so maybe it was supposed to be cute, but why waste people's time with such nonsense. Now I know why they sent out the 'heads up' notices. Sorry, but I think people are just making too much out of all of this. I have no special love for the government, and I don't like a lot that they do, but if I was running an organization (country) I'd want to know how many people I am dealing with, so what's so wrong with that? OK, so in the past they goofed up and asked too many questions but once they saw that we didn't like it, they changed it, and still people have to make a big to do about it. People complain about not having enough money for their area's projects and yet they don't want the people who dole out the money to know how many people are in their area. Sometimes I just can't help but wonder where people's heads are at.

Got mine. Sent it back. Name, first and last of me and wife, 2 people live here, own home, year of birth, not hispanic, don't live anywhere else. No date of birth for either of us (they can look it up if it is important enough), no phone number (it is unlisted and non published and if you don't show up in caller id or I don't know who you are I won't answer it anyway, leave a message if you want I won't call them back). If they show up at my door and happen to be lucky enough to find me at home, I will tell them to leave. A lot of the information they ask for is available from other sources, they can look it up. Number of people and age I can see as being useful, the rest is unnecessary.

My 2 cents worth.

And anyone that keeps any of this or similar information on a home PC that is connected to the internet is at *potential* risk to have this information stolen as well. No matter how UNLIKELY that chance is, it can and does happen. Just like people can, and do, lose laptops and other things.

Technically, the safest place for truly private information is inside your head and your head only, and that's out the window if you talk in your sleep.

A lot of folks mention that the Gov't has most if not all of this info already, and can just fill in the blanks. I'd be very surprised if the Census board has access to all the Gov't information on every person in the Union. Just because it's all part of the fed doesn't mean it's all under one roof, so to speak.

Glad you set me straight on that .

Wait, aren't we paying for the extra mailing & labor to do it?...
