Did we get your opinion about the government wasting our money to get info to use against us?
OK, now I'm confused and maybe you can clear this up for me... You're worried about the government using our names, ages, and birth dates against us? They already have that information, they don't need to get it from us and what good would it do them to try and use it against us?
When I worked for the 2000 census, there were a combination of D1 short forms and D1A long forms that were mailed out, mostly short forms - seems like everyone got the short form this year... In 2000, those who didn't mail in their short form got visited by an enumerator with a long form, surprise!...
I can easily see people having a problem with the long form - but I'm confused by the attitudes against the short form...
My thinking is this: Yes, the Constitution did, originally, have it set up to where it was only a count. However, the Constitution was also written to be somewhat flexible as the founding fathers new the situations they were facing at the time were impermanent and that laws and policies would have to change in the future depending on how the country grew and handled things. It was a necessity to do it this way - can you imagine what this country would be like today if we tried to follow the word of the original Constitution word-for-word?
As the country grew and more people inhabited it, it started becoming necessary to break the numbers down even further in order to determine how best to utilize the moneys being distributed to parts of the country - a simple count was ineffective, more information was needed - hence the demographics...
I could be wrong about all this and I find I'm wrong about quite a few things, but that's my thinking - your mileage may vary... I'm just trying to get an understanding of why people feel the way they do about something that seems to me to be inconsequential...

Hello, I'm from the government ,& I am here to help you
Jeez...I'm constantly amazed by the things some folks find to argue about...
If you are referring to me , my only dog in this hunt was posting a letter that a friend sent to the census bureau. (and it was funny) I didn't break any site rules The only arguing came from attitudes of members .

Unbelievable the amount of kindergarten mentality responses to the census form which is so simple and basic to just fill out properly and send back. There is absolutely nothing on it that is an invasion of privacy. GROW UP!
Rick, I wouldn't want to join a club that has such immature people in it that would write such an idiotic letter. OK, so maybe it was supposed to be cute, but why waste people's time with such nonsense.
Did you read the thread ?...Or is it I'm not one of the gang?..
Talk about childish & entitled . They have it down pat here ...

all I answered was number of people, age, race, relationship to myself....
it is NONE of their business to know the last, first, middle, dob**.....with the constant threat of security our country has, do you really think I want to give someone yet another chance of identity theft?? Not to mention personal safety for my children!!!
sorry, for anyone who feels I was wrong, but I feel I did as I was OBLIGATED......and I am NOT obilgated to invite them in my home....
if they show up at the door, because they didnt like my answers, they will be asked politely to leave......

I wasn't referring to you specifically, it was a general comment aimed all who began arguing over the smallest matters in this thread (and there are several!) I actually got a chuckle out of your first post about your friend's letter, though I'm sure the humor was lost on the recipients of it.
if anyone got a different one, I would like to see it.....
hey, Rick, it is VERY nice to meet you!!!!
.....you said something that hit me kinda hard.....
"Or is it I'm not one of the gang?.." OUCH!!!
I know unfortunately there are those out there who seem to 'clique'
but I would like to think that all of us here are on the same side....
and we do agree to disagree at times, that is what makes us FTE
maybe my Daddy was right about these rose colored glasses I wear~~
