Haha, the big tires really hurt towing and the expedition weighs much less.

I am sure the 5.4 would keep up with the V10 under those conditions!

Now, try it with a V10 superduty and a 5.4 superduty with the same tires and gearing and it is a whole nother story.

I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there...

Don't remember ever getting outpulled by a Triton V10 with my 7.3 PSD when it was stock. Certainly didn't happen after a few mods (Charge cooler, chip, open exhaust)
I remember being highly unimpressed with the V10 as the replacement for the 460, tho. They didn't seem to have it in the torque department like the old 7.5's.

If you plan on smoking my 6.7 with those mods, you better spring for the ACME rocket boosters to make it all happen. Just remember what Wile E. Coyote taught us: Rockets go BOOM! at the end of the ride which could be your V10 should you push any significant boost to an otherwise stock engine

The V10 has more torque and more power over a wider RPM range than the 460 and it gets better fuel mileage.

Stock to stock a V10 will out pull a 7.3.

As far as destroying it with too much boost, 500 RWHP with stock rods is the breaking point. I would not build it for more than 350-400 without forged rods.
It will be awhile before I get to turbo it.

Hey Star,
I went back to work in March (and knock on wood) and we're still going strong. I've got a 150 mile commute so there is just enough time for a nap and the 5 S's.

Now I won't doubt the 460 loses the MPG game. Even though the V10 may look stronger on paper, I'm figuring mine on seat of the pants feel and side by side accel. and pulling tests. The 460 pulls hard from down low while the V10 would wheeze a bit until it gets into the powerband.

My father has an '03 or '04 V10, grandpa stock. Pulling similarly sized trailers, it was about dead even with my stock PSD 7.3 F350 on 35's. But I was getting 4MPG better mileage when loaded. I added a cooler, dual pos. chip removed the muffler and it was no contest.

It's not the bottom end that I would be worried about, but adding enough boost to make a difference with the stock compression ratio. Kinda like the limitations on a stock IDI.

But you're aiming for 350-400 RW horsepower with some major internal mods?
I'm already there with just a plug in tuner and a fuel rail mod on my 6.7.

The V10 runs less than half the compression of an IDI so that is not a problem for smaller abouts of boost.

No, I was saying that I could make that with the whole motor stock, just a turbo and a chip.

500 RWHP is the breaking point for the rods.

Well, I understand that the V10 doesn't have the compression of the IDI ( I'm not comparing the two, just the example I used).

Theoretically, you're not going to be able to give it enough boost to make much of a difference in power without dropping the compression. The specs I found gives the stock 6.8 anywhere from 9-9.5 to 1 static compression ratio. At a conservative 7 psi, your dynamic compression is going to be in the neighborhood of 13.5 to 1. Is there really much of a gain to be had compared to the drawbacks of preventing detonation with the low quality fuel available?

I wouldn't be concerned with bottom end prroblems with the added boost. More along the lines of head gasket failure and the previously mentioned spark plug dents in the hood.

My "major internal mods" comment has to do with your mention of using PI heads in your signature.

My wife has a 6.7. I just have a payment every month for one.

I still have my old, reliable 7.3. It's been sitting since last Sept. I went out this past weekend to move it and she fired right up.
