What Have YOU Done To Your Truck Today?

New old dome light installed. Found a nice one in an econoline at pnp. The trim was a flaky chrome but after some scotch bright on a drill, primer, & black trim paint...
Its doesnt have the greenish tint as the photo looks; thats was an effect from the yellow paint, the light, and my phones flash.

Got the drivers side Fenderwell exit header installed. FINALLY!
There was some issue with the steering shaft. I think I have an aftermarket shaft, because it has a u-joint at the steering column end, and a CV type joint at the box end. Had to grind down the U-joint yoke on the shaft (it was WAY overbuilt!) to keep the yoke from hitting the #8 cylinder pipe when turning the wheels.
Also had to adjust the column itself. That's something noone ever tells you about the header install - loosen the two bolts holding the column up, and wiggle & pull towards you (while sitting in the drivers seat) - it'll give you more clearance between the u-joint yoke and the header tube.
So, finally will get to start on the passenger side. That should go a lot quicker!

Well PapaBear There wasn't, This whole process started about 3 weekends ago and was suppose to be a weekend job. But since I am fairly green at mechanican, I didnt have all the tools I needed to get the heads off and replace the gaskets. So I did what I could as time allowed and finally finished it up over the weekend.
Again since Im new and a bit of a dumass I didnt mark anything or take pictures so it was memory. Needless to say it took a while and I got it. Now I just need to diagnose a new issue.
Either way, the guys here have been very helpful and I hope that someday my 74 looks and sounds sweeeeeetttttt!

Generally, the carb has three vacuum lines. The big one goes to the PCV, one is manifold vacuum (the brakes), and the other is ported vacuum (the distributor). I don't imagine a 74 has much more than that.
My 79 has just a few lines (the aforementioned lines plus vacuum for the a/c controls) but my 78 is a stock nightmare. I think I'll replace the carb and intake and make it look like the 79. Don't tell my wife...

Took my 76 F-250 Ranger CS in for my California smog certification. My 11 year old 460 stroked to 557 c.i. passed so well, that the smog technician said it was "cleaner than most newer ones". As usual when the truck passes, I was very relieved and happy. Well.. at least for two more years.
