Great looking work! Glad to see things are going well.
I presume you are going to have your AE hooked up when you fire it for the first time. I am curious to see what the cylinder rotational velocities (PERDELS) are when you finally let it idle for the first time. Is a fresh engine expected to have zero percent upon initial start up or will each cyl have small variances until the rings seat in and things loosen up a bit?
This got pressure washed, along with the charge air cooler and the AC condensor. Should have seen the mud roll out!
Starter saver. Rather than crank on the engine for a couple of minutes, overworking the starter, fill the HPOP rails and reservoir after you get the injectors installed. It took four of those before it filled the rail.
Remove the pressure sender and the fill plug and fill up the reservoir.
Nothing to comment on here, just documenting.
Now about the clutch.
I've been WAY less than impressed with the way that shiny new LUK clutch has been performing. It would bunny hop every morning, especially in reverse. Herky jerky piece of junk engineering.
The scrapper showed up as I was taking this picture, so it's gone already.
On top of that look how much smaller the friction area is compared to the factory OE clutch.
It held the engine OK, but I still think it's only good use is a door stop.
And the Kevlar pilot bushing fell out in my hand when I pulled the clutch off, so I'm going back to the factory roller bearing pilot bearing.
And after all this, I realized that I forgot to install the steel line for the fuel drain.
Now I'll have to get creative with some flex line if I cannot thread it in there.

Thats small potatoes compared to what you are doing. Let us know if you can get the steel line in. Great pics Dan.

That's why it's best to step away from the job and get some rest. But you didn't get much with you posting at 5am. Hope that's the worst problem that you encounter.

I sleep with the bedroom window open a little for air and some idiot woman was walking down the street at 3:15 am yelling at someone on her cell phone.
After that I got up, posted and then went back to bed.
Now I'm up, eating breakfast, and going to head back to work and finish up the project.
