I have a problem with my 7.3 I last week I was hard accelerating onto a highway and all hell broke loose. had a loud bang and the engine started shaking and lost power. I thought it was a under valve cover harness as I just finsished fixing this on the drives side. I took the valve cover off and secured the clip and put in a shim but that did not fix the problem so I took the drivers side cover off thinking that it may have come looses for some reason. I found that the number 3 cyclinder had both push rods badly bent. The rockers are ok.
I am worried that this is only a sysmpton of a worse problem and that Ive got a piston or vavle issue. Any thoughts out there.
I think if he restarts the engine again before troubleshooting further, he'll have two more bent rods. Same thing happened to my friends 95' PSD. Turns out he had a stuck valve.

just had this happen to me about a month ago, I only bent the exhaust pushrod but all was well after dropping a new one, i have no idea why it bent but it sure did... here is a link to my thread..
the engine has a 4 inch magnaflow edge chip and AFE intake it has 240,000 kilometer on it. I have ordere the push rods and will give it a turn over and see what happens.
Just replace it and go about your merry way, seriously. I did the same thing about two months back redlining one of these 7.3's will do that and it doesnt always happen on the same cylinder dont ask me why but just replace them and dont worry about it. while your in there though make sure everything is torqued to spec
so the saga continues. I got the parts and replaced the push rods and did a compression check and all looked normal. I buttoned the truck back up and started it. it ran well at idle. I took it for a spin and got 2 blocks from home and it acted like it ran out of fuel. it had a a little under 1/4 of a tank and the fuel filter drain told me it was still getting fuel up to the filter anyway. It would not fire and I eventually ahd to get it towed home by my wifes Envoy (shoot me now). Anyone have any ideas?
My project motor bent some push rods..It turned out I had a sticking valve...The motor came out of a airport shuttle bus so a ton of idle miles on it...I had to get the valves done on it...As far as running out of fuel my truck did the same thing and the pickup foot in the tank was sucking air and would not pick up under a 1/4...Dump 5 in it and see if it will go... There is a fuel pickup mod out there to correct it...Im the new guy here so I dont know where it may be...Im sure others will chime in...Let us knoow what you find...See ya Matt
