As you know, a battery's ability to produce power goes up & down with temp. But that's more of a gradual thing. I would imagine a cell that's trying to short out (or several) might cause that. My stupid battery light is flickering again, and I can see the V on my ScanGauge fluctuating as well, but no hard starts, not even a hesitation. I've already been back to have my AutoZoo batteries replaced (they swapped both), and now I think the alt is acting up. I've about had it with their crap...
But the solenoid does seem more likely here. One time you get it in a "bad" spot, the next time it closes, you get a "good" spot and enough current to run the starter.

Hey Joe,
My best friend went to New Mexico to help out at a small church for a week. Here he is 70 miles from civilization, went to start truck.....dead; this was only being there for a short time.
Towed to repair shop.....one completely dead battery and the other was on life support. He was only getting by on one battery and it finally said "I quit". They were 7 years old.
Moral of the story, it takes two good batteries to get us down the road. One may go before the other and finally leave you stranded.
