Just had a dealership in Arlington, TX install the new flash on my early 03 6.0L. The thing that concerned me is that when I asked what the latest update they had was for my truck, all they could say is that it is "the most recent". They couldn't tell me which TSB it corresponded to. Said they have no way of knowing but that their equipment is plugged in every night and that it automatically updates if there is anything new from Ford.
Okay, so 110.00 later the truck seems to be running better, but I won't really know until I can actually get some miles on it and have a chance to see how the cold start is now. One thing I did notice is that the over head console now is telling me that I'm getting about 18.5mpg when doing the same driving yesterday it would have been somewhere around 16mpg. (I clear it a lot to see what it's doing under different driving situations)
They could not pull an OASIS report either, said the system kept locking up... Maybe.
Oh well... will wait and see if anything is different in runability/driveability.
BTW, the service manager did tell me that from his experience, the 03 thru early 05 trucks that were built in the Kentucky plant, seem to be a better truck with less issues than the others. How many plants were there that built these trucks?
I saw the same results on the mpg. I had mine reflashed on monday night. I went from 13.5 mixed hwy/city to 15.5. But time will tell. I hand calculate my milage and will have to wait for the next fill-up. The truck does have better response to the throttle, especially when still cold.
I just did mine here in Mobile Al at Coastal Ford $87.95 same here it seems a little quieter and maybe a tad more power. It also seems to have more power after I wash it though. It's too early to tell what the update did if anything. My main reason was to make sure the Bully Dog tune was gone. We shall see how the mileage works out, I also hand calculate. My mileage meter was showing .6 to the bad before I changed the ICP sensor now it shows .6 to the good We are going on a trip in the morning from Mobile to Gatlinberg Tn. I should know more then.
if you were at a ford dealer in arlington between 9-11 am oasis was in fact spotty at best. My guess was you went to don davis. If you go back there ask for Mr. white to be your tech. nice guy. and best off not a hack. I worked with him at the other dealer down the road.
Question...for those of you who got the new flash and have a way of reading your truck's strategy code...can you tell me what your new strategy code is? Thanks.

that code may be differnet from truck to truck, year to year and also will very by region

While, I can't dis-agree with you, since I only own one truck and you see several a day...I do know what I see on this forum (which is made up of hundreds of owners meeting the various demographics you state)...I have been seeing that between 2003-2007 MY, and obviously different regions , both US and Canada,,,the main fact that keeps coming back to me is that if you get an IDS version 64.018 or later calibration update, then you are seeing your strategy code change from VXCF7 to VXCF9....maybe ...just maybe, this is the only way most of us who don't work at a Ford dealership will ever know what update we actully have.. I have asked you this question personally on another post, but unless you can tell me that the dealer has a way to see which update your PCM is on, then I have to believe that knowing my strategy code of VXCF7 is out of date. Is there such a way the dealer can just tell me? If so, how do I ask for it? I really just want to ensure I have the latest PCM calibration update to enjoy the features and benefits of it. Anything less...just not acceptable.

Thanks for the info Cheezit, it's always good to have access to a good tech. Will Mr. White know you by Cheezit if I tell him who referred me?
he just told me I would be happier with the previous version ,, one reason was fuel mileage .. I didn't ask him to elaborate on any other reasons ,, I probably should have quized him so I could have posted it ,,sry
