When I go to the Sierras I have no cold start issues in the 20's. That is unplugged with the truck parked in the woods. I let it warm up for about 1 min. in hi idle mode and go, driving conservatively till she's warmed up.
I just bought a 2004 with the 6.0 L and have a couple of questions. I test drove it in the afternoon and it ran great, almost can't feel it idle with more power than I could shake a stick at.
Well, the next morning I started it, after waiting for the glow plug, and it sounded like !$%Q@$%. I let it idle for a minute and then crawled through our neighborhood. I think I would have had more power on my bicycle. It idled high, would not shift and I had a hard time getting over 10 mph. After a few minutes it got better but took probably 10 minutes to feel the way it did when I test drove it.
Would a reflash correct some of this?
My truck acted exactly as you have described, I had the new flash installed last week and my problem is completely gone. So... unless there are other underlying issues with your truck, I would say "yes" this will fix your problem.
If your Ford Dealership did the work...I'd say with 99% certainty your safe they used the best filters for your truck. Sounds like a re-flash should help since all the other minor things have been covered.

I had my truck at dealership (one that is 25 miles from my normal dealer) to have transmission service. While it was there they fixed a couple of oil leaks they found while it was on the rack. The dealer owner actually picked my vehicle up for me and drove to dealership. He noticed that it ran rough with cold start and that it had buzz flash. He said that he had techs reflash while it was there. This evening (engine still warm) it started much quicker. The lieometer was on the dash read 19.0. I normally don't have it displayed as I drive so I guess the dealer changed it while he drove it back to my office. I was curiously happy to see the 19.0 because typically that drive would show 15-16 on the display. So we'll see how it starts in the morning for cold start. And when I shut it off this evening, the buzz was gone.
I'm wanting to send my FICM off to bill at php to get tuned for fuel economy. but hearing these mpg numbers that every ones talking about makes me wonder if its worth it or not. cant really have my truck sit for a week or so to send off a computer, I could wait for an hour for ford. thats if they got there program right. what do you guys think?
So far I've been pretty happy with the new flash, Not withstanding any long-term issues I think they did a pretty good job, I've got an XLT with no MPG readings in the dash and I haven't gone through a full tank yet since the flash so I can't give any concrete MPG numbers yet.

the progream is good Ive been running sence it came out. no loss in mph and no adverse effects
I had mine done Today. Lieometer shows a 2 mpg improvement. Truck is and was running good. I now have the VXCF9 instead of the VXCF5 that I went in there with. SCT X-3 works fine also after the flash.
So your X3 with custom innovative tune for VXCF4 is working with the VXCF9???
I am a little lost. I have an SCT with Innovative tunes that was running on my 04 truck. The strategy on the truck is VXBC9. It was running great before the oil cooler disaster. Please help me to understand if I should be reflashing and if can run my SCT as is. Is my current flash the one that is hard on FICM's? I want to start out right on this new engine. Keep in mind the new engine is egr system gone and the ARP studs are holding down the heads. An Edge insight is watching over the vitals. The SCT tune I would like to run is a plus 50 hp.
took my 2004 f250 to the ford dealer yesterday and they told me there were no new updates. the pcm file that is on there is VXAP2N2. that was a waste of $100. anyone know if there is a newer update?
The new flash from Dec is TSB 9-24-3. IDK if there has been one since, but call them and ask them about this TSB. I can't understand why a Ford dealer wouldn't know about it.
