Cheezit will know ,, but I don't think so ,, however you don't have to let them flash you ,,lol I did the last version just to get rid of the cold morning issues
Can you ask for a specific flash when your at the dealership instead of the latest "and greatest"?
No, you pretty much get what their programmer's latest IDS version download is. Turns out there is a new one 65.01 came out on 19 Jan.
The only reason I can see that Eric would say this is because he doesen't have a truck with VXCF9 to dyno his custom tunes IOT write tunes for the new strat code...I don't know this...I only speculate this. IOW if he writes you a custom tune for VXCF7 and you load it onto your VXCF9 PCM strat code platform,,,there could be issues.
The latest flash PCM update from IDS version 64.01 includes features and benefits to me that outway MPG gains. If I don't have to go to WOT IOT cycle the vanes in my Turbo...I'm okay with that. PLus the other benefits.
My understanding is that Matt @ Gearhead Auto Perf has the VXCF9 figured out.
While, I can't dis-agree with you, since I only own one truck and you see several a day...I do know what I see on this forum (which is made up of hundreds of owners meeting the various demographics you state)...I have been seeing that between 2003-2007 MY, and obviously different regions , both US and Canada,,,the main fact that keeps coming back to me is that if you get an IDS version 64.018 or later calibration update, then you are seeing your strategy code change from VXCF7 to VXCF9....maybe ...just maybe, this is the only way most of us who don't work at a Ford dealership will ever know what update we actully have.. I have asked you this question personally on another post, but unless you can tell me that the dealer has a way to see which update your PCM is on, then I have to believe that knowing my strategy code of VXCF7 is out of date. Is there such a way the dealer can just tell me? If so, how do I ask for it? I really just want to ensure I have the latest PCM calibration update to enjoy the features and benefits of it. Anything less...just not acceptable.
Ill look in to this somemore on the next reflash I do.
Just had mine done and hte mileage actually went up. I asked for the flash by the TSB number and also the vxcf9 code and they just told me that they would install whatever the computer had downloaded from the ford site. Apparently they couldn't or wouldn't say what it was for sure. Oh well... I'm happy with the new flash I received, but then, my truck is bone stock, no mods.
Had the new flash done last week and went on a 111 mile round trip drive yesterday for a meeting. Freeway all the way empty in really bad rain and got 20.4 mpg on the dash meter. I use the electronic gas meter for reference only and I can honestly say that the new flash did not hurt my mileage. Possibly helped it some. The 1st 5 or 6 miles the ave. was around 14 till the motor warmed up and then the mileage started climbing. So far I'm satisfied and hopefully it's easier on my ficm. Didn't get the tsb no. but the sa said it was the latest flash that came out in Nov./Dec.
I had mine done Today. Lieometer shows a 2 mpg improvement. Truck is and was running good. I now have the VXCF9 instead of the VXCF5 that I went in there with. SCT X-3 works fine also after the flash.
This looks like it does more for 05 and up. What does it really do for 03 and 04 or am I reading the TSB wrong?
Your reading the right TSB; it covers all 6.0L. On the right-hand side it says it covers '03-'07 SD and '04-'10 E-series; basically if it's got a 6.0L...it's covered by this TSB.
Interesting that guys are reporting better fuel mileage. There's nothing wrong with my truck...that I'm aware of; so I'm not ready to rush out there and get it flashed. But knowing that no one appears to be having issues is handy to know.

What I find interesting is that there are specific listings for 05 on and what it will do.
On the 03-04 there does not seem to be anything listed as an "improvement".
That is why I was asking if I was not understanding it correctly.

On your IDS, theres a little "scroll" at the bottom left. With the vehicle identified after hookup click on the scroll, that'll show all information pertaining to the electronics and all modules in that vehicle.
