The new flash from Dec is TSB 9-24-3. IDK if there has been one since, but call them and ask them about this TSB. I can't understand why a Ford dealer wouldn't know about it.
I posted this on a different post about reflashing. This post was on 01-30-10:
Got the Trk back from the Dealer today. It went in for an oil leak (CAM Sensor) & for the latest Flash (TSB 09-24-3). I had given the Service Advisor a copy of the TSB with the calibration strategy VXCF9 & he passed it off to the Diesel Tech.
When he called & talked to me before picking it up he said the Tech knew all about the lastest flash(sometimes you wonder how up to date everyone is).
So far I noticed that the throttle response is smoother & better. Also the Lie-O-Meter is showing better in town MPG but, will have to calc. later to ck.

I think mine was reflashed at dealer when they put in the new glow plug controller last week. the buzz is gone, and power seems improved. Truck is bone stock. is there anyway to tell wich flash I have ? I dont have a code reader, can you tell in test mode on the odometer ? If so what am I looking for?
took my 2004 f250 to the ford dealer yesterday and they told me there were no new updates. the pcm file that is on there is VXAP2N2. that was a waste of $100. anyone know if there is a newer update?

I'm wondering the same thing, I thought I had the new one but I have seen no mileage increase after checking it a couple of times. Still 15 in mixed driving. I also have not noticed any turbo vane actuation at idle. Is there a way to check it w/o a tuner. Like physical things to look for besides the turbo thing? The truck has to go back in a couple of days. I was under the impression there was no way they could flash your truck with an older flash after the new one came out. Like an auto update kinda thing.

Yeah, same here--I hear no turbo ane actuation at idle. Hmmm... I'm beginning to wonder if they did anything at all to my truck. They were supposed to re-flash it and replace the negative battery cables...
Note that you may not be able to hear the VGT cycling with the stock exhaust. I cannot hear mine when it cycles during the VGT relearn, even when verifying the procedure with realtime datalogging. And since I sleep next to the damn things every night, I know EXACTLY what that's supposed to sound like.
i'll have to print it out and go back. the service advisor told me the ecu had the latest updates. i told him about the tsb and he said there is no new flash. he gave the "we have our machine hooked up all night and it receives all the new programming" line. he went back and fourth to the tech and me a couple times.
so, my 2004 has the pcm file# vxap2np, is that a newer file or an old one? anyone have a link for the tsb9-24-3 so i can print it out and bring it to the dealer?
also got my oil changed while i was there. they used 15w50. shouldn't they have used 5w40 for the winter conditions of chicago?
http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/fo..._211519_A1.pdf Dealer will probably use Motorcraft 15w-40 by default. I hear they came out with a 5-40 syn, don't know how widely its available though. Changing your own is a breeze, $90ish with 4 gal Rotella syn 5-40 at Walmart with a filter. Fumoto valve makes it easier if you don't already have one.
As far as the strategy, mine didn't change after the flash. Still not sure why, but is def. not the one it had when it went in. It starts much quicker and runs smoother when cold.
ya i just got the oil changed there since i was there trying to get the new flash. i read the tsb link you posted. so after the new flash i should be running pcm file vxcf9n4 instead of the vxap2n2, correct?

Tim, this exact thiong happened to me...turned out the tech only reflashed the FICM (there standard practice at that dealer) where in the past that always updated the PCM/TCM updates as well...He did not force the flash in accordance with the TSB or he didn't have the latest IDFS version 65.01 now. Needless to say...after the FICM flash, mine too started better and seemed to run smooth....only I didn't get the key features or benefits from the TSB update so I went back and sure enough...wala...VXCF9. Now I get the Turbo vane sweep sound (so I know thats working)...and the additonal DTCs. I'd go back and ask for a re-pop.
