Mr Green's Project/Build Thread
Haven't updated in a while i've been putting the project on hold due to work. I finally managed to find a fuel neck from an 87 F150 in great shape.
Heres a few side by sides.

Hopefully this solves my gas pumping problem. Its crazy how much better the 87+ is then my 85's fuel neck.

As much as I hate to do it; "The resurrection of my old build thread"... I was debating on starting a new thread for this but decided it could be a good place to look back on. (The debate, due to every time I looked back at my thread I cringed at the lack of searching skills, research, and the way I use to write
)... Mind you, I started this thread almost five years ago and ALOT has changed. I now own my own home, with a huge garage and can finally give the loving my old girl deserves.

Man have the last three years of weather been rough on Neli (The nickname my father gave her when he bought her brand new in 1985). Here is how she stands now;

Yesterday I started taking the grill down, and got a view of how bad my core support is... I think its time to replace it haha.

So I was going to take a drive over to National Parts Depot and buy a replacement radiator core support, but it appears my company forgot to add my overtime this paycheck. So it'll have to wait until Monday.

I agree - it is time to replace the core support. And to fix the mounts on the frame as they, too, will be badly rusted. I did that by making large "washers" from steel plate and welding them on, using weld-thru primer on both parts before the welding.

Yes, you can get the rivets out and replace the mounts. But just grinding them off doesn't really free them as they are seriously expanded to fit the hole. The best way, once they are ground off, is to drill into them with something like a 1/4" bit. That relieves the outward pressure enough to drive them out.
Made a little more progress with the tear down last night. Got both fenders off. I can't believe how much rust this thing has.

That is dirt in the square cut out of the cab, my dad needs to take better care of his trucks >.<

Lol that it's does, to be fair the truck did go through a huge flood down in south Florida, and also went through quite a bit of hurricanes :P
Didn't realize how many bolts held the fenders in place. I think today I'll drain the coolant and take out the core support / radiator. Perhaps call up a few salvage yards and see if they have any.

Just in case you haven't seen it, there's a Fastener Documentation sticky that might help. It includes diagrams and part #'s as well as sources, but only for the front clip at this point.

Lmfao wish I would have looked at that last night! I would have saved an hour or two. Well I'm off to Harbor freight to buy some cabinet tool organizers.
