Fastener Documentation

This is the first installment of several that are intended to document the many fasteners on these trucks. Hopefully it will be useful enough that you want to keep it around and make it a sticky. But, if you have upgrades, concerns, questions I'd love to hear them. (Chris - Can you compile a sticky from a thread with comments?)

The documentation has three parts:
  1. Drawings: I've included in my Front Clip Fasteners album three illustrations from the master parts catalog showing the fasteners for the front clip. I've marked them up according to the legend shown to indicate what I think is correct. I don't claim these drawings are perfect and would be happy to upgrade them if you have good proof that they are wrong. But I've disassembled several of these trucks and have used what I've learned there. In addition, several of you have taken your time to help me settle on what's presented here - and my thanks go to you. In any event, I've included one of the illustrations below as an example, but in the album you can blow it up such that it is much more legible.
  2. Spreadsheet: I've attached a spreadsheet that has two tabs:
    • Uses: This documents what fastener, in most cases a screw & nut, hold A to B. So, for instance, if you want to know what holds the Battery Hold Down to the Radiator Support you will see that the screw is N606677-S36 and the nut is captive in the radiator support. And, you will see that it takes 2 of the screws per truck.
    • Fasteners: This tab has an entry for each part # from the previous tab. So, for instance, you can see that the screw in the previous example has a captive washer, a yellowish appearance, and that it is M6-1 x 27.5. Further, if you scroll to the right you will see a source for many of them. So, on this screw you can get it from Fastenal and if you click on the link in Cell K7 (where this fastener intersects with Fastenal) you will be taken to a page on Fastenal's web site showing that fastener's picture and description. And with the Qty/Truck entry you can tell how many to buy.
  3. Pictures: Which brings me to the pictures. There are links to pictures for all of the fasteners - I think. If I found a source then I linked in the source column. But if I didn't find a source, or sometimes even if I did, I put a picture(s) in my album and linked to it in the part number column.

Thanks. But it doesn't look like that will be required.

Yes, but as they are not part of the front clip they aren't in this installment. But you should be able to get what you need in the HELP section at the parts store. I have. Or, shoot me a pump or a text and I'll look it up.

At the auto body paint store on 11th street they sell bags of bulk push in fasteners like that. However, there are like 20 different sizes. I was wondering if there was a size specced?

I will look tomorrow and let you know via PM. I'm trying to keep this thread focused on the documentation.

That wouldn't be a documentation issue? I was under the impression this was going to be a thread that talked about all the different fasteners on F-150's of this era so that it could be used as a reference to future builders? Should I edit and start another thread?

Nikmish - Thanks.

Bruno - No, this thread was to be a sticky with me posting the documentation. I started a thread a couple of weeks about about what to document and got very little input. So, I'm doing it the way that works for me and I hope it works for others. But, as I said in the first post, if you have upgrades on how to document then I'm all eyes. However, I'm now done with the front clip and will start on some other part soon.

Having said that, the plastic thingees that hold the door panels are N802900-S which is described as (AN-3-PB) Push pin-7.1 x 16.4mm.

Thanks! The store I was talking about sandwich bags stuffed plumb full of these things for like $7. The ones in the Help section are like a dollar a piece. I was going to find out what they were b/c all of my trucks use them.

This thread is basically outdated as I have a test web site up that will handle future updates. And, as I take it out of test mode and the URL changes I'll come back here to change the link.
