Cool My bed fell off.....

....well it didnt fall off but it woulda soon if i didnt take it off! haha

Just want to say thanks to Clay and Glenn(03_PSD) for the parts aquired for this project and all you FTErs for the info I derived from this site.

While on leave Im doing quite a bit to my truck, whole new pre-turbo exhaust coated by clay, van turbo coated also. Airdog to help get the air outa the fuel, JIMMY JAMMERS! Water Pump R&R and glowplugs with a Stancor relay.

Not to mention a huge **** brush bumper Glenn let me steal(practically), I will get pics of it soon.

Largest and hardest part of this project will be the rust....and there is alot of it.

Now I know some of you are wondering "why dont you just throw some undercoating on it and call it a day?" Thats cuz I HATE RUST, HATE IT, HATE ,HATE IT!! I dont want to mask the problem....I want to destroy it!

I got my truck with roughly 57k on the odometer and its been a WI truck all her life, its got a heavy hitch on her so I figured the guy before me towed somthing pretty good sized with it, that was until I took out the bed liner to discover holes for a 5th wheel and god all mighty dents on all 4 corners of the base plate of where the reciever sat. With putting roughly 44k on it for the last 4 years you wouldnt think much about rust damage. But I knew all to well, my 79 bronco literally rusted away until I HAD to restore it. So now its time to fix this problem for good. POR15 will be coated on every reachable inch of the frame, underbody and under the bed.

I know you guys and girls like pics so here ya go...

Good luck with the project. It looks like you're out to do it right. I know what you mean about the rust. Living in Ontario Canada the rust is stupid bad hear. The bed around my gooseneck hitch is about gone. It might be time for an aluminum flatbed.
Start the New Year with New Gear, you can't go wrong.
Keep us posted w/lots of pics and how it's going. And thanks for your service.

I know what you mean. I think a flat bed is going to work better for me and I can haul two ATV's instead of one. And it will likely be cheaper to replace than a regular bed. Less waxing too. Yuk.

Looks like fun
I didn't see the hutch and harpoon fuel mods listed in your signature and they are easier to do with the bed off.

That's a LOT of rust.
Pressure wash that thing, then get a couple gallons of POR-15, a spray gun, and a case of beer.

First off.....thanks for your service! I'm like you, I hate rust just as bad. That's a good list of parts to attack there. After your done, the truck will feel stronger and drive much better!

Happy New Year!

nice start to a nice project..its a very good idea to get rid of ALL the rust before you do any thing to it..sand blast it all if you have to...trust me i know..we deal with cars rusting with in 2 years...the tri-states seem to think we need to salt in every little snow storm we have..mostly cause people just dont think while there driving... just covering rust dont stop rust..it keeps growing...you need to get it clean and cover it good...im going though the motor this winter while my truck is parked for salt season...next year i will be doing just what you are doing,,,maybe even a DWR swap....looking forward to the finish...good luck...

Does the Air Dog kit include the in-tank mods?? Now's the time for sure!! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Is that a tool box or lunch box?? Looks about the right size to hold my lunch....
