I am hoping to have this truck painted by May. I am also having a hard time choosing my wheels. Ill be going with either 20, or 22s(if they will fit), but cant figure out which one I want to go with. I really like the Boss 338 Wheel, but they do not make it in a 5x5 1/2 bolt pattern
Its been a while since I have been to this site, but I just wanted to post a few updates. I just got back to work on the truck, and have shaved the bed post hole, door handles, locks, antenna, drip rail, and filled in all the holes where the stock trim was held on. I am also in the process of filling the cab seams, but still have a little more welding to do. Let me know what you think.
subscribing! Can you get any better pics of what you are left with where the top of the cab meets the door jam when you remove the drip rails? Also, did you section a piece in where they used to be instead of just welding the roof to the jam area? Looks like that in a couple of the pics.
I didnt take as many pictures as I should have, but I still have the drivers side to do, so I will take step by step pictures of it and post it for you guys. The drip rail is spot welded for about half of its length. For that part, I simply removed the paint with a grinder so that I could see the spot welds, then drilled them out. The upper part of the driprail is secured under the roof skin(so it appears) so I cut the outter lip of the driprail off with a grinder and slowly ground it down little by little until I got the shape I wanted. For this part I suggest taking your time, cut/grind to much and it could be a pain to fix. While grinding down the drip rail I started at the front and worked my way back. I would grind down about three inches then tach weld where the roof met the cab. I wasnt sure if the roof would come lose, so better safe than sorry. Once I had everything welded, I just went back and shaped everything with a grinder. I still have some finish work to do, but all in all it looks good. I had to do some adjusting on my door to get the gaps to look ok, and all in all they look good.
Ill have more pictures later this week. If are certain things you want to see about the process let me know and ill take pictures.
I still have to weld up everything on the drivers side, weld the roll pan in, and fill the tail gate handle hole. Once that is done Ill begin on the dash..Still unsure on what I plan to do with the dash...cant make up my mind if I want to remove the heat/AC to give the truck a cleaner look.
I also orders my suspension parts, so it should be sitting on air bags soon..
I'll have pictures in a few days of the from start to finish of the removal of the drip rails. Trust me, it isnt that hard as long as you take your time.
