I am going to be picking up a flowmaster series 40 for my 02 SD with V10 very soon. I actually need to replace my existing muffler since it has a nice split where the one band used to be. I was wondering for those that did this mod, if you have any pictures of it and what you did to fit this in place, especially since the band/clamp that holds the stock muffler is welded to the muffler?
I recommend getting a muffler with more capacity for the V10 to help keep drone down. If you plan on running the exhaust out the stock location I would get an FM50 SUV muffler.
Here are two of my threads where I installed flowmaster Force II (FM70 muffler) catback systems on V10s.
my F250 has the FM original 40 with 3"in/dual 2.5" outs, and i like the sound, nice rumble, but it does have some drone to it. for my V10 Excursion i'm going to get a 50series, not sure on single in/out or go with the single/dual again, or probably which ever one i can find at a better price, haha.
I got a Super 40 series (guy gave it to me by accident at the same cost as a Series 40). Put it on along with a new straight pipe from the cat to the muffler. I reused the stock 3" tail pipe, but in the future plan on having a shop bend me a new one. I just needed to replace mine because of getting the truck inspected. Sounds real good, kinda like a Mustang I think.
Hey guys, I am new to this site. some good info here. Have you checked out the borla cat back sys. I have had mine on four years now with no problem. I almost always have load and did not want to here it on long trips. Really helped eng. Just my 2 cents.
