Might be a dumb question, but I don't know the answer since I am new to the diesel world. Can you put a flowmaster exhaust on a diesel truck?

Sure. I don't know if they have a kit, but if you can find one with the right inlet and outlet size and the right length, you should be golden.

Just straight pipe it. Unless you have the 2003 turbo it won't be loud at all.

No joke, unless your somewhere where a loud exhaust can get you ticketed, I'd just straight pipe it.
That's what I did. Nice rumble sound, then turbo whistle, then exceedingly loud when your hot ******* it.
ETA: I bought an aluminized steel straight pipe kit from AFE. It's the AFE Atlas system, comes with 3.5" down pipe, then bellows out to 4".

I have a 2004 f250 6.0 so do I even need a muffler, or can I cut the exhaust off at the cat

Before I put my exhaust on, me and a friend cut the exhaust off before the cat. It was loud and poppy and sounded terrible.
After piping it out the back like factory, its not loud in the cab at all.

Probably depends on your state. I would look into it before you get too bold and start cutting!

Yup if your states doesn't do smog checks I would ditch the cat also.

I am in Texas and I don't think they do a smog check when I take it in for inspection. So I can just run straight pipe all the back, no cat or muffler???

Texas emissions laws are exempt for diesel equipped vehicles. Only a safety inspection required.
That being said, you can be ticketed in Texas for excessive exhaust smoke if your tailpipe smoke doesn't clear after 10 seconds.

Maybe, but if you do that, hold on to the cat. They're not cheap and you never know when you might move to a state or city that requires one.

My wife just recently bought an 04 F-250 6.0 and it had the exhaust cut off right before the cat. Sounded like **** and ran even worse (not to mention the underside covered in black soot and a filthy mess to work on). I took the stock exhaust system my son in law had cut off his 06, TIG welded it back together and hung it on my wife's 04, sounds normal now and runs much better IMHO.
