dana 40 checkup

Okay. I need to check my front end on my truck.

What Do I need to know. How long is it going to take me, and what fluid should I drop in there?

I want the complete checklist.

It's a bit loud, but the outer u-joints look good when I checked them when I first got the truck.

Dana 44 or 50. The axle need to be removed to get to the carrier.

Is there anything else I can check then? I think there is a drain on the front isn't there?

A D60 will cure your Grrrr's LOL!

No drain plug...just like pulling the cover off the rear...messy haha

You need to remove the brakes, hubs, spindles, axles...then un-bolt the carrier from the left axle arm.

well i must say the only reason i opened this topic is because i wasnt sure why you were asking about a dana 40.....lol at any rate, i agree with tj, suck it out with a vaccum pump, its a gravy job. in my opinion the only way you will damage a dana 50 is to run it out of oil or excessively wheel hop it. other then that i see no reason for a tear down just to inspect it.

what do you mean by "its a bit loud"? and the only way to check the u joints is to remove the axles and check them, my money is on the joints are trashed, not the center section.
