I picked up a case of Mercon SP at my dealer yesterday and was told by the parts manager that a service bulletin came out just recently stating that the Mercon LV can be used in all torqshift transmissions. The price is the same which came out to $4.61 per qt.

No, it is not. MERCON LV is the correct fluid for the 2008 Focus. I asked about MERCON SP. It is only used in the TorqShift. There are no future vehicles that will use MERCON SP, it's being phased out.
I gave up drinking the SP Kool-Aide 25,000 miles ago.
Got 25,000 miles on Royal Purple SYNTHETIC ATF with no issues. I have not noticed any TS performance degradation since I installed the RP. It performs as good or or maybe even better then SP. Pulled pan down after 15,000 miles to make sure the clutch material was not in the bottom of the pan as some implied would happen. Pan was clean. Fluid looks like it did 25,000 miles ago. Plan on running it until it starts to darken or I get to 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Both fluids are compatible in the torqshift SP and LV you can mix and match as per Ford. From what I read back in the summer Ford will be using LV in more of their auto transmissions.
