2004-2006 Dodge is the only fast truck made. As far a pulling power I know for a fact my Ford v-10 outpulls by a large margin a 2001 Cummins with a 8800# load up any hill. (My uncle has the dodge and we pull the same 5th wheels)
Or the bottom line is no one but Ford makes a gas engine for towing! If you want more out of your Ford V-10 get a SCT tuner.
Absolutly. That is the single biggest reason I chose Ford. Had a Dodge with a V10 and really liked it. Have read great things about the Chev/GMC 8.1. Both are gone though and I just don't need a diesel especially for 7 g's. True about the SCT, although "need" is a pretty strong word about having more power. Want is more like it. Back in the 70's through 90's the big gas engines from all three made over 100 less hp and ft/lbs and they towed all the fifth wheels, TT's, or whatever and they did it just fine. We humans only NEED more power when we know it's out there. If we didn't know, we wouldn't care as what we had was working pretty well. That being said, I sure "need" a lot of stuff as I am part of a nation with OCD. Gotta have it man!!
You guys both hit the nail on the head. I sought out a V10 on purpose for that very reason. I DON"T want the expense of a diesel, but I need more power than my aging Suburban. So that leaves a gas motor, but which one? A 6.0 Chevy? I'm sure they have power, but a freind has one and gets 12, unloaded on the freeway and his is an extra cab. A Dodge? Even if they still made them, they get poor mileage, like the Chevy, and it's a Dodge. I have never cared for the look of any Dodge trucks, which my Dad loves. To each his own, and for me, that means a Ford.
I agree to each his own. I am concerned about the "expense of a diesel" statement. I am guessing you are refering to the initial price difference between the new diesel and new gas. After that the diesel is cheaper all the way around. Exspecially at the pump here in California.LOL
I see you have a Viper in your sig. you might like this video
Sorry but I have to get in on this now. Yeah no duh the truck smoked the Viper... The truck had 4WD. Have you ever tried to launch a 500hp RWD vehicle at a dragstrip?
EDIT: And seeing as your comparing apples to apples (Diesel to the V10)... It would be best to remember that the V10 does not have a turbo stock. Where would your Cummins be without a turbo?

A diesel is in now way cheaper all around. 15 qt oil changes and expensive service visits are not cheaper and yes, the initial 7 grand hit is a lot. You certainly can buy a bunch of gas with that.

Well, I would back up his expense statement. Diesels technically are more expensive, from the fuel, to repairs, and the initial bullet to even get one loaded in. Then, you add in any possible repairs you might have, and provided, not everybody has problems, but lord knows, if you do, it can get expensive quick. Just look at the 6.4L. I got a V10, and I recommend V10 to those who situations fit it, because of the relative simplicity and low maintenance of the engine. Just my .02, let's not turn this into another V10 vs. PSD thread.
