The place to start is as stated above. I just bought an X3 tuner from Mike at 5star. 5 Star Tuning | Custom Dynomemeter Chassis Tuning Products and Services He writes custom tunes for each truck. I just uploaded the 87 octane tune last night and what a huge difference! I can't imagine what the 93 will feel like, but as soon as my tank goes down I will find out. He not only makes power with his tunes, but he also address the sloppy drive by wire system as well as all the trans deficiencies. The five speed auto actually uses all five speeds, shift points and pressures are improved, and converter lockup timing is reworked. Read all the happy customers in the V10 section and I'm sure your buddy will make the purchase. Best $379 I've ever spent on a vehicle and I've bought a bunch and tweeked every one.
Thanks for the info this is what i was looking for guys who have modded thier trucks and have useful information
Just a little curious, what is you do with the Cummins since the Dodge truck will wear out
years before the Cummins does?
HMM well stock sucks so there's no sence in paying way way more for something that will never compare no matter how much money you spend on it. and your right my cummins will be running flawless for years to come (I don't really see that as a bad thing) PS if ford put out any kind of hp or torque they might be able to break something LOL!!!
Now don't pick on the guy for owning a CTD Dodge. I have had 3 and they were all excellent trucks- never had them in for anything but an oil change. I just became a Ford guy because I didn't want a truck built by the Italians or the federal government . On the other hand, I can't understand why the guys friend doesn't come on here himself and check out all the excellent information. Kinda weird.
He's not real good with computers. he likes what i've done with my rig and the price of which i've done it. he has better stuff to do than sit on a computer, hunting season, getting married in a couple months, and his fiance is expecting. I think the only mechanical thing he's ever done in his life is change his oil, He's a big boy don't worry about him
A stock V10 will out pull a cummins, sorry but its the truth.
Yeah i've seen that happen every time we line up LOL!!. actually if i didn't have a little boost online for the launch he most likely would beat me. sorry its the truth (PS turbo is stock so not cheating)
Rember when Dodge made a V10. Yeah.... So dont talk about a Ford making a bad V10 I rember my dad had to basicly give those things away. I know your gald you got a Cummins and wish my truck had one too but its too bad yours didnt come wraped up in a Ford.

don't fret they make a cummins conversion for fords www.destroked.com !! and your right Dodge's V-10 really sucked lol Ford definately takes the cake for the v-10 (new Hemi makes more power though 383-hp 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 400 ft-lbs in a half ton) not real sure how she'l do for longevity though.

Is he upset because it won't run with the diesel's on the track? If so tell him to save his money because he won't be winning any races...This is coming from a V10 owner.
I get tired of explaining to people that this isn't a diesel engine. The HP and TQ curves are completely different, and the engine behaves completely different when it's really working.
People associate the V10 to being "gutless" when you have to put your foot in it and let it downshift and pull a hill at 4,000 rpm. It's no diesel, and it makes and transfers it's power in a different way. The V10 was "designed" to run at that high RPM all day long. There's nothing wrong with letting it wind out, except for the MPG's. The driver just has to adapt to the way this engine works, and understand how to use the truck.
You can throw all sorts programmers and intakes at this motor, and it will still be a naturally aspirated gas engine. There are improvements to be made for sure, but you still have the same engine when it's all said and done.
