In response to my own question about weather south of Grande prairie, the guys at work tell me we had a bridge wash out two days ago. They say it ended up 100m down the ravine. If they have good weather this weekend, they're going to try to hoist it back into place. Not looking forward to driving a drilling rig across that in a few weeks . . .
Getting out of Calgary this weekend. I've had enough stampede madness.
Does it get pretty crazy during the Stampede? One of these years we hope to get up there for that. I suppose it's like any big event... fun time for visitors, but not so great for the folks that live there and still have to try and get things done.
Calgary is the hub of the Canadian oil industry, and basically everyone who works downtown goes crazy for this. Companies throw some pretty amazing parties, often with free booze. Tourists see a very different Stampede than then I do.
I'm lucky I guess, I get a lot of invites out. If I wanted, i could drink for free all day every day for the entire ten days. I usually get a few free tickets to the rodeo and Chuckwagon Races as well. For me, I did five days stright of boozin, then a couple quieter days, and now I'm shutting it down.
Locals who work in a different industry probably hate stampede.
