Doesn't NEED to be done. Most see a small performance gain by removing the obstruction from the intake air flow and some just do not like the whine that comes on when the EBPV kicks in or the constant oil leaks from the valve.
Caution : You might want to research how gutting this valve impacts oil flow to the turbo. Some have burned turbos with this being lthe ikely suspect. This is why some have gone to the no ebpv pedistal option instead of just gutting the original pedistal. With the no ebpv pedistal you do not have the oil flow issue.
There is NO oil flow issue with this mod. If you look in the pedestal when you take the EBPV ***'y out, there are two maybe 1/16" orifices that divert oil behind the actuator to push the arm out. I believe what happens is that the solenoid in the pedestal is triggered by the PCM opening the one that allows pressurized oil to flow into the chamber pushing out the rod. The other is the drain that opens when the PMC is no longer calling for the EBPV to be closed. If the solenoid is not activated, there is no oil diversion. In other words, there is no oil diversion unless the PCM is trying to open the EBPV, and that's only when you're at idle, and no more oil loss than if the EBPV actuator is there and operating normally anyway. But either way, most folks leave the solenoid unplugged and put a delete plug or 470 ohm resistor across the plug to fool the PCM into thinking it's seeing the solenoid so you don't get any soft codes.
