Looks like it is just a matter of replacing that piece now and the shifting problem will reveal itself soon also.

Is that shaft we are seeing in the pictures going into the transmission as I think it is? I have had many of the older E4OD, C6, AOD, etc apart and in those that shaft stays in the trans.

yeah, that shaft you are seeing does go into the transmission.

I was thinking if that driveshaft explosion cracked this tailshaft housing or whatever it is, I hope it didnt crack anything inside the trans. So im going to drop the pan, pull the torque converter and change the oil while carefully looking for metal shavings ...

The tranny is probably OK but I hope you can get that shaft back in.

well I think what ill do is try to get the first set of splines in, and if I can, then ill just end up putting it in neutral and spin it, hopefully itll slide inplace nice.
