few new shots
I currently have no high beams. I've been through countless bulbs. The most recent were the best, 100/80 watt bulbs that were bright and white but something in my lighting has made them go dim on low beam and not longer work on high beam. Plus, I've melted parts of my harness even with one of those aftermarket dual relay and upgrade wiring that goes directly to the battery kits.
I plan to install four 55 watt HID bulbs around 4,300 Kelvin. I'd like to get projector headlights that use separate bulbs for low beam and high beam so that when I select high beams, lows and high will come on simultaneously, providing far more lumens.
There are no street lights on Haines Highway. Pavement seems extraordinarily dark being enclosed on both sides by dense forest, and four legged pedestrians are very dark. My truck also sits very high so even with my lights adjusted way down, they are very dim.
I don't care about halos or Angel Eyes since from what I've read they aren't visible with HIDs anyway. I'm just interested in finding a quality pair of projector headlights that are adjustable and bright.
AlaskanEx,did the projector headlights you tried have no adjustability at all? Were they any brighter than the OEM headlights? I see how poorly they mate with the hood, but looks aren't too important to me. Which light socket housed the low beam, which the high? Did they use H1 bulbs for high and low beams? Do you think they would require any modifying to install HID bulbs? What was the beam pattern like while driving? Let me know if you still have those lights.
Thanks,
Matt
they had absolutly no adjustablity at all, they were pure crap. the beam woulda been ok if there would have been some adjustment.
yes they took H1s and i had H1 HID bulbs in them..which took some grinding on the bulb to make fit.
i'm much happier with the stock 02-04 style headlights, with a HI/Low HID set and some HID diving lights i have no issue seeing endlessly down the road.
and i never tried the projectors with halogens, but i'll bet you good money the stock 02-04 with stock bulbs would have been brighter.
the projector was the low beam and the reflector style was the highbeam...which was a total joke the highbeams did absolutly nothing esp with no ablity to aim them.
Looks like your bullbar hides the front plate lik mine did on my 03 Ex.... before pic :

so I used a pop rivet gun and in 10 minutes moved it up 4 or so inches to between the lights on the front facia....
never worried about some rookie leo giving me a hard time about my plate after that...
now when I had all 6 lites going, that was a different story
,,the second set is OK,,,,But I still like the Harley Davidson stile SuperDuty lights the Best,,,They Just look MEAN !! Now i dont know if they put out better light or not,,,,But they look Good !

yeah i was debating moving it..but i think i'll wait till i get pulled over..then play dumb and then move it but thanks for the tip!
AlaskanEx, could you foresee any reasonably simple way of modifying those junk headlights so they could be adjustable? If the headlights could be adjusted, is there still no way to adjust the beams separately? Having 4 bulbs is still drawing me to that model but I want to get this right the first try.
the only way to adjust the headlight was moving the whole housing which was a bad bad idea from the start..whoever thought of that should be beaten with a bambo stick.

i drove 250 miles round trip, sitting right at half a tank now. i'm guessing somewhere around 11mpg but i'll check today. hubs locked and in 4x4 the whole time running 70-75 half the way and 55-60 the rest. outside temp was from -10F to 16F.
i cant wait to get my sct3 tuner and take another trip and check the mpg.
