I have a late 99 F250 4x4 7.3L with a stock automatic transmission. The truck has 153,000 miles on it. The problem is from a stop when I accelerate the engine will speed up and I get a slight hesitation before the truck will begin to move. It feels like slack in a gear if you know what I mean. Engine speeds up and it takes a second to take the slack out of the drivetrain or something? Once moving everything seems fine. It does this everytime you come to a stop and begin to accelerate. Does this sound like a transmission or torque converter issue, or could I have wear in the rear end and have some slop in the gear? My guess is that it is transmission related but I can't pin point it. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I hope someone can help me out. Thanks!
Fluid level shows to be ok. I was thinking about changing the filter and see if that helps. I was also thinking about putting in a transgo shift kit at the same time. I know the shift kit has nothing to do with my problem but I was thinking it might help my trany to last a little longer. Does my problem sound like it is Torque Converter related? I have read that the T.C. is usually the first thing to go in these trany's and then takes out the transmission? I don't know just asking. Thanks for the reply's I really appreciate the help.
Don't waste your time or money on the shift kit until you're sure the trans is ok. I'd find a reputable local shop to look at it. Before you end up stranded in a bad spot. Be prepared for anywhere fron 2500 -4000 for a new trans. If you do end up needing one, don't make the same mistake I did, spend the extra 700 - 800 for a heavy duty converter. I think the one they put in on my 2nd transmission has like 8 clutches or somehing like that. Just my opinion though
