I purchased a 2000 F250 7.3 4x4 (auto transmission) about 8 months ago. I've noticed recently that when I accelerate there is a slight hesitation like there is slack in the drive line. This does not happen when the truck is moving and I accelerate. There is not audible clunk and the hesitation is not in the motor. I checked the u-joints and they all feel tight. There is a little slack in transfer case that allows me to turn the drive line slightly back and forth. Is this normal? Has any one experienced anything similar and should I be planning on a transmission or transfer case rebuild soon?
Update: I was researching the leaf spring isolator pads (mine are warn out or missing) and it sounds like these can cause something similar to what I am experiencing. Does this sound like a possibility to anyone?
I am planning on pulling a 28' travel trailer from Colorado to Wisconsin next month and would like to avoid any issues if possible...... Obviously, I know Thanks!
Thanks Shake-N-Bake! That makes a lot of sense and I will give that a try this week. What a relief that it is probably a few dollars worth of grease and not thousands for a tranny rebuild.....This forum and its members are a life saver!

I hope that turns out to be your issue as well. I use super white lithium grease from NAPA to lube that joint. I've also used the special Ford grease. The white lithium grease seems to last a lot longer in my trucks.
For anyone who might read this down the line.....I got the 3 oz Motorcraft grease for $9.00 from a dealer so I wouldn't stress over looking for an alternative and just go with what was spec'ed. Do your best to stick to the .25 to .46oz of grease. I put a bit too much and had to wipe it back off to get it back into the yoke. I would recommend a screw type hose clamp to secure the boot. It is re-useable and a little more trust worthy than a zip-tie. Easy job....maybe 20-30min.....remember to mark the drive shaft and reassembly is easy.
