I Recently Purchased A Used 2005 F150 With 3800 Miles On It... I Have Noticed When I Slow To Around 15 - 30mph Then Give It Power Again That It Makes A Noise That Is Coming From Somewhere In The Drivetrain.... I Took It To The Dealer And They Serviced And Greased All The U Joints But Has Not Helped.... They Said It Is Not A Transmission Problem Because The Electronic Transmission Would Have Given An Error Code.... From A Dead Stop To Full Speed I Get No Noise At All.... I Get The Noise When I Have Already Been Up To Speed / Then Slow Down / Then Accelerate Again At A Speed That Is Say Around 20mph.... You Kinda Feel A Hesitation Then Something Engages / Makes A Clunk Bang Then You Go..... Appreciate Knowing If Anyone Else Has Had A Problem Like.....
Ditto, have not taken in yet.. I notice when cruise control is on, it will do it sometimes too. I have been reading up on this here, mostly the greaseing the yoke it all I have seen.
04 SCREW Lariet 4x4 3.73 LS I have the clunk when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear. I took it to the dealer and they showed me a TSB telling them it was normal and not to attempt a repair!!

You are correct there is a tsb on this. I will roughly translate it for you.
Ford engineering knows that this is a customer concern but doesn't know
what to do about it. Hence the tsb dont try to repair.
Seriously through they are working on it wether or not they come up with
a fix remains to be seen. It only occurs on cost down or light tip in.
It will not cause major problems but it is annoying to say the least.
I also have an 05 Screw. Did the same thing for the first 3500 miles and then worked its way out. Now at 5500 it does it very rarely and only under specific circumstances ie: downshifting from 3 to 2 and when I am gunning it a bit. Dealer told me that it would work its way out and it did. Not sure how many miles on your truck, but if less than 7500, I would be patient. Its part of the deal!!
my 05 Screw does this between 20-30 on tip in after coasting. Seems like the tranny can't decide what gear it wants, then chooses first real quick and jolts the driveshaft. I have a hard time accepting this as normal, and even harder time believing that it won't cause damage over time. It's like neutral-dropping to the rear and driveshaft every time it happens. And the jolt inside the cabin is a little unnerving, even though i know it's coming.
I have an 04 stx ext cab it does it downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at around 20-24 mph and if im slowing down at a red light and go to give it gas it clunks really hard into gear, also been through 3 sets of brakes in the front and 2 sets in the rear(rotors and pads) and found 2 front tires were causing a really bad vibration due to being defective and ford replaced them,a month later the 2 rears had the same problem and they wouldnt due anything about it.MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 14,000 miles on it..........I think it was built on a friday at beer:30 pm with all the spare leftover parts................
I have an 05 STX SCab. @7.8k I took it in for some warranty work. One of the 2 probas I have is an erratic clunk sound coming form the rear end when the truck is at a dead stop. The Dealer looked it over and then ordered a new flange coupling Ford part # FL3Z-4841-DC. Ill re post the results after the work gets done.
I have the 3.73 LS as well. Does anyone see a pattern developing here? I'm not bringing it in just for the clunk, but on my 2nd service visit (in Jan. sometime), i will definitely make them take a look at it. I'll also have them look at the tranny. Just yesterday, my tranny didn't want to shift out of 3rd, it hung no matter how much (to a limit) or how little gas i gave it, finally gunned it all the way and it downshifted. Then I had to slam on the brakes for a light, afterwards it was fine. Does the tranny have the same computer as the engine, or is it "flashable" by itself?
