Transmission slips

I have a 1994 f150 4x4 with 5.8 liter engine and electronic transmission. Intermittently, the transmission acts like it has slipped out of gear then finally engages. When it does engage it slams into the gear. As I accelerate, the remaining gears also slam rather than shift smoothly as normal. The problem usually occures while accelerating from a stop or a slow speed although it has also done it at freeway speeds. Needless to say this is very hard on the drivetrain. Any suggestions would be apprecieated.

Get the filter and fluid changed right away. If that doesn't cure the problem, get it to a reputable tranny shop and have it checked out. You do NOT want to pay to rebuild that tranny.

Already changed fluids and filter

I had the fluid and filter changed about 4 months ago hoping that would resolve the problem but it didn't. Would air in the system cause this problem?

if you did not drain convertor at the same time than you need to do it again.
