Well I just discovered that just the gears are pricey, ouch.

I have come to believe that my gearing choices are controlled by what is available in a reverse cut for the front axle.

Am I mistaken, can a 4x4 front axle not need reverse cut gears?

Since I have a Dana 70 rear and 60 front, besides the 4.10 that I have, the next reverse cut gear for the 60 is the 4.88.

Now the 4.88 is sweet because the calculator predicts that for the 35.4" tires I would need a 4.76 to match the revs per mile of the original 30.5" tires.

The 60 axle doesn't have any reverse cut gears above the 4.88.

The 60 axle has reverse cut gears in 3.73 & 3.54 which match up with those for the 70 axle.

More thought for tomorrow.

midnight snack time for me. i figured i'd check the forums

jim i hope today was more productive than yesterday for you.

pete- i have 160cc ("stage 1" whatever that means...) single shots, with stock nozzles. nothing crazy because all my truck does is tow, so i will need a good towing tune to keep egt's at bay. of course if i know myself at all, i know ill keep the chip on the hot setting whether im towing or empty!

also pete, im not in a big rush to get my chip mainly because i need big oil to keep up with the injectors. with just a generic tune from a borrowed edge evolution it drops the heui pressure enough to throw the engine light and bog down, so a chip isnt top of my list yet. im shooting for having a 17* pump and the chip by winter, possibly even a 1.00 a/r exhaust housing. also, i should install my guages and 6.0 CAC that i bought a year ago...

i need to talk to james, i think he went truck pulling with his rig. i'd like to see some current dyno numbers from his truck as well, his last "do over" involved a big fuel system and a nice set of injectors. he was trying to get his hands on a gtp-38r and a SD pedestal to get the oxygen intake on par with the fueling.

A blonde, wanting to earn some money, decided to hire herself out as a handyman-type and started canvassing a wealthy neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any jobs for her to do.

"Well, you can paint my porch. How much will you charge?"
The blonde said, "How about 50 dollars?" The man agreed and told her that the paint and ladders that she might need were in the garage. The man's wife, inside the house, heard the conversation and said to her husband, "Does she realize that the porch goes all the way around the house?"
The man replied, "She should. She was standing on the porch."

A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" he asked. "Yes," the blonde answered, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats. "Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $50. "And by the way," the blonde added, "that's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

You can always try to find a crashed superduty to get a 17* hpop out of, Aaron.

And you'll have to excuse my stupidity, but what's a CAC? Catalytic converter?

Also what kinda sticks you put in?

If you went with custom tuning like a DP Tuner or a chip from Tony Wildman or Powerhungry Performance you could probably get an emissions tune in your 0 position so you can just unplug your controller and let the emissions guy do his thing and plug it back in so you can roll coal on your way out.

I'll check back in tomorrow. For now it's time to sleep.

Went to a spec house in Westport, picked up the punch list and then went to another site for a sitdown w/ the owner and contractor.
Went to the lumberyard, hardware store and returned to Westport.
Swapped out some hardware, tuned up all the cabinetry, did a shelving system in the MBR dressing room, mirror frame in the master bath.
Then I had to drag some 5/8" sheetrock up into the attic for a firewall.
Must have been 130 up there.
Hanging rock on the inside slope of a roof by yourself is a PITA under the best of conditions.
I'm too tired to sleep.

they were beans injectors, i actually bought them from a kid that decided he needed 3's the price was right....they only had a few thousand miles on them and i paid $400 for the set.

as for the chip/smog test......im an OBS! i get sniffed, no OBD2 for the machine to read.

CAC= charge air cooler. its the proper term for what is incorrectly often referred to as intercooler. an intercooler is in the intake manifold and has coolant running through it. cummins 855's and other dinosaur diesels have intercoolers. modern diesels have charge air coolers.

jim...ill take the attic on the hottest summer day, but sheetrock SUCKS. i hate everything about it. log structures are great on so many levels, the lack of sheetrock is a huge bonus in my book. T1-11 will be my wall covering if i ever build my own house

ok im going to watch drillbit taylor and maybe fall asleep. later!

Yes, you can regear now and change differential later, but consider this. The ring and pinion gear come as a matched set. You will usually change bearings, so a installation kit will be needed, and that will consist of bearings, shims, and seals. You may have to do the installation kit again when you change differentials. You should talk to your mechanic to make sure you don't have to buy the installation kit twice. I use CT Axle (Pete) in Ellington for differential work since it is the only thing I don't have experience with.
