Jim listed the most common symptom. It can also cause a no start where there is no tach reading while cranking but that could also be caused by other things. if the wait to start light comes on with the key but no tach reading when cranking then it could be the CPS.
It can do many wierd things too. I have seen them cause a stall in the rain, Stall with a trailer hooked up and you hit the brakes. Stuff like that.

A IDM in failsafe mode or defective IDM can do this.
Also wiring issues. (shorts/opens ect)
