So, my thought is, using scan gauge to figure if map is bad, is not an accurate way to find out.
But its just a thought. No idea where its getting its reading from if the sensor is unplugged.

The scangauge might have the MAP and BAP sensors confused. The barometric pressure sensor is under the dash by the steering column. I guess you know where the map is. If it's reading around 14.7 under a load then it's likely the BAP. My scangauge 2 has the two confused. I had to tweek the programming on it to get them right. Just changed the name of each one on it. With the SG2 they have to be programmed in for a gasser engine also. The diesel x gauge thing doesn't work for those and the engine coolant temp and air temp. Gas engine ones do.
I know it's different gauges we're talking about but it may be the same problem.

The MAP value is probably calculated by the PCM when it sees a bad signal. Just like when you unplug the ICP sensor. The truck will still run even though it doesn't know what ICP is. It just guesses. In your case you truck is a good guesser. Ask it for a lotto number quick.

For the SD MAP not its not interchangeable.

It doesn't really guess. Map and ICP are a fixed value based on EOT and throttle position I believe. Limp home mode.

Nope.

The SD MAP sensor is a 0-5V sensor. The OBS sensor output is a variable frequency on a fixed voltage.

That is what I meant by guess. When the signal is corrupt it goes off a set table rather than actual sensor data
