I already have auxilliary backup lights wired to an upfitter. I was thinking of wiring the reverse camera to those, so I could turn the lights and camera on at any time, even if not in reverse.
About 20yrs ago I wired some headlights into my bumper to come on in reverse or manually. I found a very large advantage to them when I had an itiot behind me with his brights on
I saw some led driving lights the other day at advance, I don't think they would need much heavier ga wire and they're bright enough and small profile.
I used one of the upfitter switches to power my backup light, camera, and monitor. I love the setup as I have full control over when the light / camera is on.
And like previously mentioned, the tailgators can see my head light from behind and I can see them on my monitor (win-win for me).
I was going to post some pics but I'm a forum-idiot and can't seem to accomplish that.
Thought I would post an update to the winnplus camera I bought. I installed the monitor on the visor, and wired it to an upfiitter switch, since I didn't want it coming on every time I backed up. I did wire the camera itself to the reverse lights. Word of caution, do not use the supplied scotch loks, the camera will not operate properly. Better to direct wire it. Not wild about the double-sided tape to the back of the license plate, I think I'll do a better mount in the near future. Anyway, the view is pretty good, a little static here and there. Works like a charm for backing up to my trailer. I'll have it aimed straight back most of the time, then aim it down when I'm going to hook up to the boat or car trailer. I'll keep you all updated as time goes by.
Bought the GPS/backup camera from 4UCAM for $300. GPS works great, however the backup camera cuts in and out alot when I am reversing. I think it might be the wire clips/locks as mentioned above. I am going to direct wire it to see if it works better, might also try moving the transmitter too.
