Anybody know what color this wire is and where underneath the dash it will be? I will be pulling off the tail light to try and track it but just seeing if anyone knows on here, read most of the post about the back up cameras and it has been pretty helpful just no wire color!

Are u looking to power up the monitor in reverse only? If just for power to camera splice into backup circuit behind the tail light.
If you want power to monitor always splice into hot always in the fuse box. I powered mine to turn on only when in reverse, and found it easier to splice under the hood. Not enough room under the dash to find the right wire. I ran thru firewall and to the bundle that runs to the underside, on the drivers side. On your truck it might be different, I have an 02 Excursion. I found the black/pink tracer. It will be the same color that you splice into behind the tail light. I have pictures in gallery if needed.
Wallz - I would like it to come on when you put it in reverse, I found the black w/pink stripe behind the kick panel on the passenger side, I spliced into it but it still does not come, I am assuming it triggers power when it is in reverse, there is no power to this wire when it is in reverse. Where did you hook up to it under the hood?
Here are the pictures that I took, not very clear but hopefully they help. Under the hood, on drivers side is where the wires come thru the firewall. Under/beside the brake boost.

Thanks to everyone providing this information. Just an idea about splicing into reverse light at tail light.
U-hall sells a tail light bulb with a pigtail attached so that you can run temporary lights to say to a car on a dolly. I seems that a person could run the pig tail out between the lense and the housing as intended and then tuck it around the out side of the housing so it is available in the fender behind the light. It provides a round bullet connector. this would preclude splicing into the wiring harness.
I think what I'm going to do, is have the camera hooked to the reverse lights, and have the monitor hooked up to one of the upfitter switches, that way I can just turn it on whenever I need it, since I may not need it every time I back up.

Unless you have a kid like my oldest that always wants to watch the cars behind us while driving down the road. lol
I already have auxilliary backup lights wired to an upfitter. I was thinking of wiring the reverse camera to those, so I could turn the lights and camera on at any time, even if not in reverse.
That's another thing I want to get, is aux. back up lights. It would be nice to have some more light backing the boat in the drive way at night. What did you install for those Bill?
Man, those are small! But they fit really well above your hitch. I was considering one of the sets that fit around the reciever. Or, a set below the bumper. I don't do much (or any, for that matter) off roading, so if they hung down a bit, that would be okay. Then again, I don't need huge ones either.
I haven't had much chance to use them yet. Outdoors season is starting at the end of the month, so I'll get a chance to test them more. I think they will be pretty good once I get away from city lights.
