Service quote from HELL
Up pipes on either truck seem to be an issue.
Why would you assume an EGR valve is causing blue smoke? This makes no sense. If the cooler was leaking it would be white.
None of what they listed is uncommon on a 6.0. There is the possibility that the bedplate is not leaking, but that would be a whole lot of unscrupulous behavior. A second opinion is definitely in order. Keep in mind though, the shop you take it to. They may not WANT to repair the bed plate, or get involved in the concerns you have with the dealers estimate.
Why would you report someone to the BBB for what the MIGHT have charged you. It would be like trying to sue someone for something they might do....
The Ford computers are linked for repair history, but probably not estimates. I don't know for sure though.
So it has been 5 years now and I still have never lost any oil. I think the "whole lot of unscrupulous behavior" you mentioned is correct in this case. I was so upset that I told the service advisor to not touch my truck I would be in to pick it up ASAP. When I confronted him in person he changed his tune and said that his quote was based on bringing my truck back into "showroom condition" and that the bed plate oil leak was not a big deal. I wanted to kill him when he said that. Instead I walked away and have never been back since. Keep in mind what started this was I brought a running truck in for a littlle blue smoke at startup. He called me back and said that he would be happy to fix all of my issues for $6,000. Do you still want to defend that? I never addressed anything he said was a "must fix" and my truck is still running fine 5 years later.
