    I am getting ready to tackle this job myself. I have done everything in the past up to removing the gear, pinion and the inner seals. All seem relatively cut and dry. I am concerned about rebuild. What am I looking for as far as shimming and positioning when reinstalling.

    No, I haven't ever used one. They are designed to handle the temp and pressure of the high side. I have seen them used before, i've just never installed one personally. My rule of thumb is to replace the affected parts in a catastrophic failure. They are getting harder to find, I wanted to use one a few years ago and the packaging of it in the car didn't permit it's use.
