Thumbs down Punch it

I've noticed if I punch the gas pedal the truck just sits there for about 3 seconds before it starts to move. Now I know these trucks are not sport cars and they are heavy but I figured it would move off the line better than that.

Now my rig doesn't have any fancy add-ons, so maybe it's just because it's stock, I don't know. But I've seen other guys with the same rigs fly off the line and leave some rubber behind.

Is this normal to have lag like that, or is there something I should be looking at to help this?

Do you have any gauges? Does it make any black smoke? Kind of sounds like it's not driving the turbo, like an up-pipe leak. How's your fuel system? Pump healthy?

No gauges, no smoke. I don't seem to have a problem with the fuel system. As far as I know the pump is good. How would I know if it was dying?

It is normal for a stock tuned truck to have this kind of lag. You could easily call Tony Wildman, or Jody Tipton and get some programming for your truck, BUT there are other items that should be addressed before adding a 120HP tune to your truck.

A free flowing air intake, and a larger free flowing exhaust is the first major hurdle to allow the engine to "breathe" easier.
Now it is a good idea to add a few guages to monitor how things in your engine are progressing. EGT (exhuast gas temp), Boost, and tranny temp.

Then you can safely add a custom tuner to your truck and you too will leave long black marks from the stoplight.

Before you ask, "do I really have to have all that stuff?" , the answer is no, you can just add the tuner, but, ignorance is not bliss in the diesel world, it is costly.

A three second lag before responding to driver input is normal?

Dan, maybe I did misunderstand what he was asking.

If your truck sits for 3 seconds after the pedal is pushed, and makes no obvious attempts at forward movment, or the enigine does not rev up, then the TPS(throttle position sensor) should be checked, as well as look for obvious exahust and boost leaks, and check for proper fuel pressure.

First things first though, Is your oil full, and of the correct grade and weight?

Yes my oil is full and it's the proper grade and weight. The truck does try and move forward when I punch it but it's barely moving and then after that the 3 second lag it grabs and takes off.

As far as the intake goes I have the 6637 but that's it. No aftermarket exhaust yet or gauges.

I think we need to know what your boost is and all that. That seems like way too much lag off the line. It's hard to tell what's going on without more data from the engine. No codes, I'm assuming, right? What about the fuel filter? Is it in good shape?

adjust your passenger side mirror so you can view the right rear tire. When I punch it from a stoplight my truck sits still for a few seconds until the rubber from the spinning tire melts to the road. My truck is 100% stock, it has 500 ft. lbs of torque. Same as a '69 Super Sport Chevelle.

Is your engine revving up? Slipping tranny?

Well I can't give you any readings guys because I don't have any gauges. Your talking to a Military guy. Fuel filter is brand new. Adjusting any view isn't making my truck move off the line any quicker. My engine is revving up. Haven't had any problems with the tranny slipping. I don't know guys, it's puzzling.
