adjust your passenger side mirror so you can view the right rear tire. When I punch it from a stoplight my truck sits still for a few seconds until the rubber from the spinning tire melts to the road. My truck is 100% stock, it has 500 ft. lbs of torque. Same as a '69 Super Sport Chevelle.
i have a 99 with the same problems new motorcraft air filter fuel filter and fresh oil change and it still a turd but its a six speed with 4:10s
im new with the diesel what is ICP/IPR
Okay guys, time to re open this thread again. It's been a while since this all started. But apparently there is a problem. Even though I have been putting Diesel Kleen in the tank on every fill up, this has not fixed the problem. When I first started using Diesel Kleen things seemed to be better. Not so much now.
I've been noticing a decrease in power lately and even my wife noticed it. And for her to notice something mechanical there has to be something wrong. Yesterday I tried pulling out onto a busy street quickly because there was another vehicle coming. So I punched it and nothing! I about got T-boned!
Basically when I punch the gas to the floor there is no lunging back in the seat. The truck just sits there for at least a second or two before the truck decides to start moving, and when it does get going it acts like it's struggling. And I've noticed more black smoke lately. I never saw black smoke before when I would get on it.
I don't know what it is. I've tightend all the boots on the spider and tubing thinking maybe there is a leak. Cleaned the air filter and put in a new fuel filter.
Just a reminder my truck is stock, no exhaust, no gauges, no upgrades, I just don't have the money for them. I realize these trucks are not sport cars like I mentioned in my original post, but I'm pretty sure it should get off the line a lot quicker than what it's doing. Also, I'm still pretty new to the Diesel world, so a lot of the talk you guys talk is like another language to me, along with the acronyms you all use. I'm trying to catch on but it's a lot to learn, and I don't spend a lot of time on the computer either because I hate them and they hate me! So, if you guys can help me out with this I would be really grateful but remember english, english please.
Please add your location to your profile, I'd be very willing to help out witu your truck if your local. I have a dp tuner with an exhaust and an intake. I have all the common tunes so you can see what you would like to get and I can help with the maintenance or finding if you have an issue with the truck. If you are local to the Los Angeles or Long Beach area PM me and I can help you out even let you try the tunes vs stock on my truck.
Okay guys let me try and answer a few of your questions. I changed the fuel filter roughly 500 miles ago, my air filter is a 6637 and I cleaned it out the best I could with my air compressor. It has about 10,000 miles on it. What's the average mileage on the 6637?
You guys have to remember I don't know diesel lingo, so what is ICP/IPR? I don't have a clue? I don't have a tuner, I have nada, zilch, zip! Like I said I don't have the money for that stuff.
I'm going to take all the boots off the pipes clean them up and do the hair spray thing (whenever I get the time) and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice guys and keep it coming. I will let you know what happens with the boots whenever I get around to cleaning them.
I'd recommend using a vacuum to clean out any airfilter if you need to. Shop air is at what, 10x atmospheric pressure, forced through a concentrated area on a delicate material.. How does that affect the woven paper fibers at filtering out particles? A vacuume works better, pulling the particles out the same direction they came in, instead of forcing them THROUGH

Sorry for the confusion on this one. I use a vacuum as well. I mainly used the air compressor to blow the loose dust out and then I used my shop vac for the rest. I understand what your saying...good point.
ICP- Injection Control Pressure sensor
IPR- Injection Pressure Regulator
Both are part of the High Pressure oil system and works together. The ICP is mounted on the oil rail at the front of the engine on the drivers side. The IPR is mounted on the bottom back side bottom of the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP). If either is bad, it could cause all sorts of running problems. Simple check is to unplug the ICP plug and see if there is oil under the plug and on top of the sensor. If so, chances are it is leaking and need replacing. Both usually will set a code and if you can access a code reader it will help figure out what to start with.
I'm thinking it may be the throttle position switch on the pedal assembly. Does it lag and then lerch or lags and then goes slowly?
It lags and then slowly and steadily starts to pick up speed. There is no lerching what so ever. So, tell me what your thinking with this throttle position switch. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Do you have a picture of it?
