I basically have a stock truck w/ automatic (lots of improvements, but just a 40 hp tow PCM from Jody) and I think something is wrong with the OP's truck. When I step on the fuel pedal it moves, now...no 3 second lag, no two second lag...NO LAG. It did the same thing (move immediately when fuel is dumped) before I put the 40hp PCM in too.
Well here is a question. I went to DP's site and saw a couple of things I'm not sure about. Okay since I'm new to the diesel community and still trying to learn the gargon bare with me.
I saw a deal for the PCM flash and it said (stock) $45. I know that's your trucks computer. What exactly does this flash do? Also I saw F-6 Tune (No start and Stock) $0 So what is all of this and what would I have to do?

Thank you Neal.
I REALLY didn't think that a hesitation off the line was considered normal and acceptable.
Ford would never have allowed that sort of programming error to make it out the door!
I have purposely drove mine in to work on stock, partly because to let it warm and partly to check for the OP. After a few minutes and on stock setting, I promise you I will be well out of the intersection in 3 seconds. There is no hesitation, may not jump, but if I depress the go pedal, it goes. Even when cold, there is no 3 seconds of nothing. Engine rpm's pretty much match truck movement..
Just to give an update on this. The last 2 fill ups I've been putting injector cleaner in the tank. I figured what the heck. And each time I've ran it on the freeway pretty hard.
Well, the other day I was on a nice lonely stretch of road and decided in lay into it. To my surprise it jumped off the line pretty good. I had the wife with me and I had her time it. I only had a .02 second delay and it was off and running. I guess Diesel Kleen helped out pretty good.
I'm still not sure if that was the problem or if there is something else. But for now it's running good.
I hope that was it. I run DK in every tank. If this is your first time with Diesel Kleen, you may want to change your fuel filter out soon. That stuff cleans out your entire fuel system, tank, pump, lines, ect. It all winds up in your filter. That's a good thing, but will clog a filter up pretty quick.
Okay guys, time to re open this thread again. It's been a while since this all started. But apparently there is a problem. Even though I have been putting Diesel Kleen in the tank on every fill up, this has not fixed the problem. When I first started using Diesel Kleen things seemed to be better. Not so much now.
I've been noticing a decrease in power lately and even my wife noticed it. And for her to notice something mechanical there has to be something wrong. Yesterday I tried pulling out onto a busy street quickly because there was another vehicle coming. So I punched it and nothing! I about got T-boned!
Basically when I punch the gas to the floor there is no lunging back in the seat. The truck just sits there for at least a second or two before the truck decides to start moving, and when it does get going it acts like it's struggling. And I've noticed more black smoke lately. I never saw black smoke before when I would get on it.
I don't know what it is. I've tightend all the boots on the spider and tubing thinking maybe there is a leak. Cleaned the air filter and put in a new fuel filter.
Just a reminder my truck is stock, no exhaust, no gauges, no upgrades, I just don't have the money for them. I realize these trucks are not sport cars like I mentioned in my original post, but I'm pretty sure it should get off the line a lot quicker than what it's doing. Also, I'm still pretty new to the Diesel world, so a lot of the talk you guys talk is like another language to me, along with the acronyms you all use. I'm trying to catch on but it's a lot to learn, and I don't spend a lot of time on the computer either because I hate them and they hate me! So, if you guys can help me out with this I would be really grateful but remember english, english please.
Have you looked for exhaust leaks between the motor and the firewall? Just look for Soot, a black spot either on the firewall, or the up pipes.. Otherwise, disconnect all of your boots, spary the connections with hairspray and try again.
You may need to check the fuel filter. How long ago have you changed it? Do you have anyway to check the fuel pressure? Also could be that with more black smoke your air filter is getting dirty. I know I changed one out and it didnt look to bad but then my egt's went down about 100 or so.
You said you "cleaned the air filter". What kind of filter do you have? Reason I'm asking, black smoke can be a sign of lack of air. Dirty filter can be on cause, low turbo pressure (boost) can be another. One other thing comes to mind, When my ICP/IPR was giving problems, I had some lagging problems, but with that there was also power issues at all levels. Sounds like you've covered most of the basics. Check you oil level and if at all possible check your codes.
