Hey Lisa! Sig Sauer P229 .40 cal. We may be switching to either an H&K .45 or Springfield XD .45 though in the near future. The brass don't like Glocks for some reason.
Great pics you posted from the train by the way. I've been super busy the past several days and lurked around a little but haven't had time to post.
It's "hot" compared to the fairly cool temps we have had so far this June... not that I'll be taking my chore coat out of the pickup, since it makes a pretty good ground cover in case I need to crawl undersomething, but hotter than it has been so far this year. And subzero cold is damned cold no matter where ya happen to be from.
As for being an "Iowegian"... hey, you are, too, now.
LOL. I know. I was just giving you a hard time. Actually its an observation I have made during my time here. People complain about "hot" days and I'm like, WTF, this isn't hot? But then again, I am from a place where its not uncommon to have 20+ days of 100+ degree temperatures.
On the cold side of things, too..sort of the same thing. Coloradoans "think" they know what cold means. They have no idea. Most of them would not hack it for 10 minutes out in that -30 crap. lol. Now when I go home, and I hear someone making fun of 'flatlanders' I can tell 'em that you all are a tough bunch.
Has been a super cool year all the way around. Strange weather. Back at home they've been getting tornadoes. One was spotted in Downtown Denver a few days ago. That never, ever, ever happens. Been raining there nearly every day, and for once in a millenia, its green there.

H&K's are neat weapons...and I always wondered why officers carried .40 cal weapons. They are by no means "man stoppers". I'd be much more comfortable carrying a larger caliber, if it were me amongst the bad guys.
In any case, I can see why the brass does not like Glocks. They have a reputation for being dangerous because of the safety mechanism.

We switched to .40s about 8 years ago. Before that, we had S&W 9mms. They truly sucked so the .40 was a step up for us. A lot of the reported problems with the Glocks and safety issues can be overcome through training and the use of common sense. We have tried to get the brass to switch to .45s several times and, in fact, tried to go to .45s when they made the switch to the .40s. It's like everything else though....a slow gradual process.

Gezz...if there is group of people out in this world who SHOULD have larger caliber weapons....its police officers!
Training I can see, but you just can't teach some people common sense. You either have it or you don't.
Speaking of guns, my 17-year-old sister wants me to teach her how to shoot, and take her to hunter's safety while I am in Colorado. I'm excited! A girl after my own heart. All my other sisters are foofoo. lol

Yeah...I agree. It's a constant struggle for us when it comes to getting equipment. We finally got enough ARs to put them in all of the cars now. Speaking of common sense, we had an officer that came over from the sheriff's office to our department several years ago. She was doing her FTO with me one day and I inspected her weapon. Unloaded. WTF! I asked her why it wsa unloaded and she said that since she had two magazines on her belt, she figured she'd just load one of them if she needed her gun for something. Dear God. Anyways, we had to have a little chat and I had to explain the finer points of firearms and their proper use, etc. to her. Now, her sergeant has to check her weapon every time she starts her shift to make sure it's loaded.
That's cool that your sis' wants you to teach her how to shoot! Never to late or too early to learn.
When we go through qualifications every six months, we each go through about 500 rounds of ammo. We do a lot of moving and shooting drills. Leapfrogging from points of cover and shooting at moving targets while we are moving, from behind barricades, out of the cars, doing officer rescues where one of us has to be in the open trunk laying down suppression rounds....lots of fun stuff!

.
You don't need big caliber, just shoot a bunch of times
The little pansie cops here want to shoot something so bad any chance they get they just shoot a bunch and think later
Kind of a wonder the dumb asses don't shoot themselves or each other

lol..well...that's unfortunate. She obviously doesn't realize that one of these days she'll get herself into a situation where she won't have that 1 extra second she'd need to load that magazine...
Yeah my sisters, they are funny. They are both super excited about camping next weekend because I am bringing the ATV with me.
