Well, in Virginia, the Attorney General doesn't recognize the PIT maneuver as justifiable and LE agencies aren't allowed to practice it. But, the driving part is fantastic! We had to run about 14 different courses eight to ten times each. That Chevy van is used by our Regional Jail for transporting prisoners and they have about ten of them. It is 19 feet long and you have to do speed maneuvers in it like parallel parking, serpentine, and a parking course where the orange safety cones are set out about 2 feet off each side of it. Doesn't sound too bad until you start swinging the front and back ends around trying to park it. All of the courses are timed and if you go over time, you fail and have to drop out of the course. Each cone you knock over counts five points off your score and you have to average a 90 to pass so they don't leave you much room for error. If you go more than 5 MPH above or below the designated speed, you fail.
It's Sam Adams time for sure! Oh, and by the way, I passed with a 98.93 average!! WooHoo!!!
Wow no pits in VA huh? I didn't know that, very interesting. Sometimes I watch COPS and stuff, and they perform pits and I think to myself...that the chain reaction the pit causes could very easily be much worse than allowing the suspect to speed. In Denver, they would oftentimes back off and let the suspect "escape" and then track then down later, the thought being that the high speed chase would cause more harm than the criminal...especially in highly populated areas.
Great score. I'd love to do the driving tests just to see how I perform. You should be proud of yourself and the Sam Adams is much deserved.
The crazy neighbor lady just came over and was knocking on the door. I turned the TV off and didn't answer and she went away.....
On the lil sis - thanks everyone. Heidi is a good kid. Sad I wasn't there. You see my other sisters there in the photo. Holly is on the far right, she graduates next year.
I would so sue everyone if I knew they didn't fix this after this happen a few times.
thats jacked up.

Yep, the signage was pretty clear. What I noticed, is that most of the trucks are rentals. Most of them are problably being driven by some dummy that shouldn't be driving a truck that size. Know how tall your truck, or load is, and then pay attention while driving.
Lisa that is so kewl about your sister. You are all pertiful!
I am slam full so I get to knock out early tonight and maybe actually get to see the inside of my apartment for more than a walk thru to office or to clean it. To sit on my couch instead of in office? wowzers.
Jim I need cake! Well okay just need you but really really want cake! Well hmmm okay I really really want you but I crave cake.....get the hint? lol
well, i got most of the old front steps i have been trying to get rid of for 15 years now gone today. i took the wrong jackhammer, and only had one 60 lb hammer bit in the compressor, and that was a 8 inch spade bit. so i could not get any closer to the foundation.
i also took out an old street entry landing for my 80 year old neighbor.
she was very happy to get rid of it.
large air compressors and jack hammers make life so easy.
total time for both jobs was 25 minutes, and that included moving the truck and compressor 2 times.

Thanks Lisa. The PIT is a good and bad thing and you touched on it. I personally don't like it because when you perform that, the vehicle you're pitting becomes a multi-ton unguided missile. No telling where it will end up or who else it may hit. We use spike strips here and they're pretty effective. Only problem with using them in town is that there are so many alternate streets they can turn on, it's hard to get good placement.
The driving tests were great. One of the guys had a camcorder but it wouldn't work right so I didn'y get any video of it...would have been cool to watch though.
That video is crazy. We actually had the same problem here a few years back. There's a railroad bridge that crosses over one of the roads in town. Logging trucks kept hitting it and everybody assumed they were over their height limit. We went out one day with the town engineer and measured it. Lo and behold, the bridge wasn't as tall as the posted sign. What we found was that after years of repaving, the road level had risen because when they repaved, they didn't strip the old asphalt up...just added on top of the old. The next time they repaved that portion of the road, they stripped up the old and got the road down to the correct height in relation to the bridge.
