One other bad thing is he's only allowed to use the phone if they tell him it's okay. I only get calls from her if she wants something or has bad news...what am I talking about? If she calls it's always bad news.
That just doesn't seem right to me. It is his house too and he should be allowed to use the phone as often as he likes unless he is grounded. I don't see how the hell she can tell him when he can and can't call you though, just doesn't make any sense to me. I think I would be gunning for her....
Well, the judge here (good friend) leaves it up to the kids where they want to live when they are 14+. I'm just watching and making notes as I go along. His grades are holding up thankfully but I'm concerned that it may not last. I said the same thing about the phone thing too. I also pointed out the fact that my child support paid for things for him (theoretically). That's my gripe with her not buying him a vehicle. He's getting nothing out of the support.
I won't get into the details but before he decided to go live with her, he was being setup with a new '08 F-150 4x4. All he would have had to do was keep up his grades, work part-time after school for my wife, and keep his nose clean. He found out about the truck after he moved. He's hating it right now.
Yeah, come on down. Well, the thing was that my best buddy down here owns the local Ford dealership. He had a 2008 reg cab sitting on his lot that hadn't sold. $32K sticker and was going to slide it out the door to me for just over $20k. We told my son that when he started driving, we would match whatever he had saved up. Well, he had $3800 and some change in his bank account. So that's $7600 down and we would split the payment each month like we promised. Had it all worked up and ready to go. He decided to go to his mom's because his grades hat to be honor roll here to drive, etc.
About a month after he went, my wife let it slip to him one day. Sometimes, you just have to learn the hard way. I did growing up and never wanted to listen to advice from my parents. They told me a long time ago that the older I got, the smarter they'd be. Didn't make sense then but damn sure does now.
I split payments on my truck when we got it straight from Kentucky. That was the hardest thing ever. Dad had to do the 3 year financing though. Thats why it killed me. Half of 903 a month working a part time job while in high school...ouch...glad I did it now. Truck is still goin strong!
Well, we would have gone with a term that made it affordable for him. I hate long loans but I knew he'd be paying half. Thing is, he'd only have been financing about $12k or a little less and only half the payment would have been his. Well, long story short, I wasn't going to tell him about it to try to get him to stay here. He has to see for himself the kind of crap and broken promises his mom is known for.
I don't believe in giving kids cars. He would have been working part-time and paying half so he would have had a vested interest.

I'm sure you wrestled with that over and over in your head. It's gotta be tough to let a kid figure it out on his own.
I have been kinda fiesty today..... damn headaches. lol.

Well your no fun. I'm just kidding. I agree with you!
Chase was handed his car and it made me crazy, well it still does to this day when I think about it. He wasn't made to get a job until after HS so his mom paid for his ins and gas for almost 2 years. I'm sure our child support went to that also but I don't want to think about it, it just pisses me off.

I always had to buy my vehicles and I had some truly sucky ones. I took care of them though and appreciated them because I had to work for them. His mom is just riding this as far as she can. Hell, it took me three years to get $800 out of her that she owed for his braces.
