That sounds pretty good at 6 or a little lower. I'm really trying to match my front which as it is now drops pretty low. I have it about 3 inches (crossmember) from the ground with 2x4's so I can get my jack out from under it.
Looks like for what I want the step notch is the way to go. Am I correct that the S10 notches are the ones that will fit the f100 frame widths? I seem to have read that somewhere in the past.
Where are y'all gonna drive your trucks sitting that low? Around here we have speed bumps that are 4" tall, which means you'd high center going over them ripping off anything below the frame like exhaust systems. The racing suspension on our Solstice lowers it so that the ABS air dam under the nose is 2" off the pavement and the lowest point of the exhaust (there is no muffler) is just over 4". We have to be VERY careful when going over speed bumps to cross them at an angle and go very slow. There are a few parking lots where I will not go with it. Going up and down driveway approaches almost always drags the spoiler (I've replaced it twice now @ 95.00 a pop), and I had to lengthen the ramps on the trailer 3' so as not to rip it off when loading and unloading the car.
Then there is the problem of where are you ever going to find shocks short enough? Even just resting the truck's weight on the foot valves will destroy them, let alone bottoming them on a bump. Angling them more is not a solution, and you sure don't want to just leave them off, it will be like driving a rolling pogo stick.
Yes, I know yo can put in air bags to raise and lower the truck, but then the truck rides hard when raised and if you don't pop for the independent computer controlled height adjustment system the truck goes down the road sitting at some ridiculous looking angle.
Meanwhile you have spent mucho $$$ just to try and impress some local gearhead wannabees when it's parked??? Oh well each to his own.
Disclaimer: I like a vehicle that's been lowered. Gracie has been lowered as much as practical and still be drivable without needing any frame mods.
Ax I'm going to be using bags and I don't plan on driving it with it as low as we are talking about in the thread. That would be for when its parked. There is no point in having bags if you can't adjust the suspension some ridiculus amount. I realize that driving it as low as it will go would not be the smartest thing one could do but I would like to have the option make some radical height changes when sitting still. All I know is that I love the look of those trucks sitting on the ground (or almost) looking like some "slick" antique steel just waiting to be woken up. I will eventually get a computer controlled adjustment setup so I can have it dialed in as exact as possible.
Ax I do understand where you are coming from and I know not everyone likes the same things but for now I just love the low hotrod look. I'm just hoping that by the time I finish the truck I wouldn't have changed my mind.......nah!
I do understand the "look", but I personally would not sacrifice ride and handling satisfaction for it. After the first ten times of running it up and down there won't be anyone left to impress, and it will become boring, the one trick pony. There are a lot of other things that must be considered and remedied if you want it drivable. Spending 5K just to make it go up and down a few times is money better spent elsewhere IMHO. I am MUCH more impressed by a well done driver than a vehicle that was screwed up trying to imitate trailer queens at a show or in a magazine that were built just to show off the builder's abilities and wallet. If you align the wheels to be right when driving, they squat when dropped to a pose that to me looks more like a dog taking a dump than something cool.
You say you'll eventually get a computer control system. Best get it before starting to drive it, or you'll be very unhappy! Have you ridden or more importantly driven any bagged vehicles? I bet not or you would have already changed your mind.
I haven't driven a bagged vehicle but have ridden in a couple. I really didn't find it to be that bad of a ride to be honest with you. Also, this truck wont be a daily driver for me. I have another truck for that so I should be able to put up with most if not all of the negatives. Of course I'm sure there will be one or two negatives I didn't think of but I'll see when I finally get it on the road.
it's a look I wont get tired of after a million times.
That's how i feel. I wont get tired of that look anytime soon. My Toyota truck back in 87 was dropped and that was when that look was just hitting the South and there were no baggs or much support for the dropped trucks. Talk about a rough ride....now we have so many more suspension options and improvements. I've loved that look for a long time and will a lot longer.
i got my bags when they were on sale at airbagit.com, they were around $115.00 for all four, i then bought a used air ride technologies kit off e-bay,it had the tank , 2 compressors, the ``pink`` valve, digital display with 4 corner sensors for $600.00, with some misc items i`m in it for around $750.00-800.00, oops! forgot my shocks i havent bought, toxic shocks are around $33.00 each so another $132.00ish, so $932.00, if i didn`t go this route i would have to buy rear coil overs at roughly $500 to $600, new front shocks @$66.00 for the 2 front ones(roughly) so if you look at it its pretty darn close, its basically what you prefer and i always wanted a truck that would sit in the weeds! i would strongly recommend some type of guage system so you can monitor all 4 corners of the truck, just playing around in the shop you can really tell that 5 psi will do for ride height especially between bags.
Bag it if that makes you happy after all it's your truck. Mine (56 F100) has a Volare front susp with dropped spindels and sets about 4 1/2 at the back of the front fenders. Love it wouldn't change it for anybody. My 2003 F150 S/C is dropped 4 inches in the front and 3 inches in the rear (I am sure it's settled some after all these years, it was dropped the next day after I bought it new).
Well if you say so. I just read it and i didn't see anything about higher in the front but it dose not matter the 2003 and the 56 both set lower in the front. Have a fun day.
