can anyone point me .............
Invest in one of those cheap plastic..or..( if you have the extra cash), more expensive digital set of Vernier calipers'''..HF has them as does home depot,Lowes etc..You will get used to using them real fast when measuring different things,..inside/outside diameters of bolts, nuts pins, andmarking small incremental distances on just about anything...
Next ,purchase a thread /pitch gauge..these usually come as standard equipment in a good Tap and Die set...I know,I know thats even more money..LoL! (look at it this way..If you buy the tap/Die set for $80.00....you get the pitch gauge for free!!)
Try using an existing nut/bolt/washer(s) combo for fit...if it"s too short.., try a longer one...when things look "RIGHT"...measure it...then walk to your Hardware notebook...You "DO" have a hardware notebook don"t you!!...and write down the bolt diameter, length, grade desired, thread pitch and quantity of each.
Next time you go to the hardware store your good to go...my local hardware has been around for over thirty years and has all the "good" stuff in the back....anything real wierd or special..I"ll wait untill I"ve exhausted all local remedies, then call in a special order to the BIG place downtown...Good Luck!
If you have a shop manual there should be a chart in the back that lists all the standard bolt and nut sizes. I think there are charts also in the 48-56 Ford Truck Illistrations Catalogue, and the Chassis PArts Catalogue for your truck.
